I am a 43 year old grad student who has a lot of weight to lose. The raw diet has been the best method I have ever found for gaining health, energy and alertness, but I’ve also found since 2006 that I have a lot to learn about nutrition, detox/withdrawal, food addiction, and health.
Much of my difficulties in eating raw stemmed from confusion about what constitutes good nutritional practice when you eat a raw diet. There is so much conflicting information out there! My blog, Raw Odyssey, reflects my journey from a complete newbie in 2006 who just wanted to journal about her raw diet, to a more seasoned and skeptical person trying to unravel the myths and debates so that we are all better informed as raw food enthusiasts. I encourage us to always question where information is coming from- never to just believe something because a guru or “expert” in the raw community said so.
Despite my frustrations with conflicting and incomplete information, my blog is as light hearted as I am. After all, my goal isn’t to create more controversy, but to promote self education and self empowerment. I love the intention of the raw community: to improve the health of our selves, our families, our communities and our planet. I hope my blog helps us to think critically and to self-educate.
