?? about soaking nuts

Once the nuts are soaked, do you drain them and store in fridge or are you supposed to just keep soaking them until you use them up?

Hi lauralai. Someone asked about this in an earlier post. Here’s the link to it. It’s the my longest post on that forum (July 5).

Basically, you store them in the fridge or dehydrate them. They keep in the fridge stored in water up to a week… changing the water daily. Same with seeds. Same with grains.

  • Hi. I had a question about sesame seeds. I soaked some for several days and nothing happened. Do people usually soak these? Has anyone ever sprouted these? Thanks.

Were they hulled/unhulled sesame seeds? Get the unhulled ones. Anne Wigmore’s book (The Sprouting Book) has a few black & white pictures of sprouted seeds, and the sesame seeds don’t look much different from their non sprouted form.

  • Thanks germin8!

my almonds go mouldy if I don’t refrigerate them after soaking.

  • Is there a reason that the soaked nuts are best stored in water? I have stored them (after soaking overnight) without water for a few days. I try to rinse daily.

  • I was wondering if pine nuts should be soaked. They seem to be really soft already.

you can soak pine nuts but they go really mushy. I never soak them.

Stillfire, good question. Guess it doesn’t matter… except if you want to sprout you keep them out of water (following the sprouting process) or if you don’t want to sprout you leave store in water. I’m just about to practice sprouting… I don’t plant to store them dry in the fridge, but I wonder: will they sprout in the fridge?
