I realize people have likely been putting many hours into updating the website, and while I appreciate the work and like that there are few crashes or inability to get online...that is about ALL I find positive in the new setup.
- The homepage, not a fan! What happened to all the great pictures and access to many parts of the site at once?? All this gives easy access to is forums, which yes I use but is not the main focus of why I first joined the site.
- I can not longer search in recipes, a wordsearch brings up EVERYthing with the word and most are posts and not recipes.
- Again - what happened to all the great pictures?
- I'm not sure on the last one, can't put my finger on it but I'm just not as attracted to the site anymore(mostly visual I think but that matters to a very visual type person). Lots of little things, or the great energy I got is gone.
I'm just wondering if I am the only person that is frustrated lately with this, I used to love this site and now I find myself giving it a quick glance and that's it. I know it's a great resource but the new setup doesn't appeal to me and I often get more frustrated when trying to find recipes now.
I totally agree with you blueyz. I am trying to seach for recipes and only finding posts. I know the recipes I want are here so it's really frustrating. I can't use the site the way I am used to and it does seem to have lost a lot of functionality - though I know that just can't be the case.
I agree. I liked the original best even with all the flaws it was better. Was showing this site with a friend today and it was so frustrating. just about everything I had been telling her about it and then I could not show her in a positive light. I have to really work at finding things and yes trying to find recipes is so hard. I had to download Mozilla to view it before and get used to that and now this well I hope it gets better I know they are working really hard to make it better
I agree, but I am truly hoping that this is just a transition in setting the new site up. We are lucky that we have access at all while the changes are being made. I really appreciate all the work being done to make the site better, and I am going to reserve judgment until the new site is complete.
If you knew quite how many hours Kandace and I have put into this site you wouldn't believe it. It's been a long and time-consuming road! Yet it still has a long way to go, since we switched to this new system.
The benefit has been that it hasn't sucked up unnecessary free time of ours in the past week or two. And believe me, we really don't have a lot of extra free time. The new system makes life so much easier for us day to day that we actually do now have time to work on improving it. We didn't have time to even consider that an option in the past, but I'm glad to say that now we finally do.
So I apologize for the current condition. BELIEVE ME, you're not the only person who is frustrated with it at the moment! We get a lot of "feedback" from that little link down there. We know how much work we have left.
I love the concept of goneraw ... but I'm missing the old home page, too .. It was so friendly and colorful to look at and easy to use. I'm missing the ability to search for recipes I like, too. Transition is usually never fun. Here's hoping the finished website will bring those things back and be better than ever. Forum posts are sometimes interesting, but the recipes are what I log in for.
Ray - I really do appreciate the site and all the recipes/info I have gotten from it so thanks for that. This transition period is just killing me right now (sure it is for you too!) because at a time I'm struggling and need it the most and I can't get to anything I really need but was here before which makes it even more frustrating to me.
I'm really glad that i can get on the site everyday, but i'm not so happy about not being able to view responses to my posts - i can't seem to find any type of area that shows me what posts i've responded to - you used to be able to do that. Odd!
I miss the big friendly text. The new site, along with many the many frustrations of finding recipes, has such small text and unfriendly icons! The old forum board was both much easier to read and far less intimidating.
carrie6292...not sure if you know about the track button on your profile to find posts and recipes you have created or commented on...now can anyone please tell me how this new forum was added:)...obviously most people have been able to add new recipes and topics since the update:)
i do know about this link http://goneraw.com/node/add/recipe to add recipes...it does not work for me,says i am not authorized:(
1. Click on “Forums” from any page.
2. Select and click on the Forum Category for your topic.
3. Click on “Post New Forum Topic” at the top of the pane (above the blue border).
4. Enter a subject line, then post your comments.
MATURITY?!?! Is it non-existent in this day and time??? Or is acidosis rearing it's ugly head???
People for goodness sake, how would you feel if YOU were spending all your free time working on something that was paying you nothing... Then YOU receive these types of comments directed to YOU??? Get a life and relax, anything worth having, takes time and work... Ray and Kandace are doing the best they can and as fast as possible... Don't you think there are other activities they would rather be doing??? I for one believe they will be just as happy as we, when this site has been completely updated!!!
I wonder, if you were 95% or higher raw, would YOU be so intolerant???
Also it would be most helpful, to read ALL the replies before posting... We all might learn something if we take the suggestions of those who have had the time to play with all the new features on this site!!!
Evergreen, you're welcome. It's interesting that you can post a comment but not start a thread. If you haven't already reported this glitch on the "Feedback" link, I'd suggest you attempt to post one more time. When it says you're not authorized, click on the "Feedback" link in the bottom right of the screen and notify Kandace and Ray directly.
:)..don't want to overload them...i am sure there are more pressing things for them to sort out:) i would really love to be able to edit my published recipes especially since the in site links don't work anymore, i wanted to change them:) thanks again :)
I don't like the new set up either, and I saved hundreds of the recipes in my favourites from the old site and now they've all disappeared with the new set up so I have to go through the whole process again.
Crimson, have you had time to check out the link (http://www.goneraw.com/forum/love-new-search-features) Kandace references on the homepage under “New Search?” I think if you take a couple of minutes to explore the MANY advanced search options, you’ll agree the upgraded search features are quite awesome.
Is this what the main page is going to look like??? Text without photos???
I enjoyed seeing the "new" and "favorite" recipes WITH photos at one glance, and that helped me to decide what to try quickly...so is it going to return to that layout or stay like this with text only? :( Anybody know?
Also, is the recipe section going to be text only also?
Guess I rely on photos more than I realized, only like to use my un-cookbooks that have photos...and I do realize there are small photos if I'd click on each individual recipe title, but not inclined to do that on a regular basis.
Just curious if this is the layout or if it will look different in the long run? Thanks :)
THANK YOU Waterbaby 12347 for expressing what I have been thinking all along. We are such an instant society & expect it to be done NOW on OUR timetable. My goodness, Ray & Kandace do have a life outside of this website!
I would just like to say I appreciate all their hard work & dedication & hope they can blow off the impatience/comments of alot of people as things take shape & they work out bugs.
And thank you emptdmom for all your imput/instructions to us noncomputer folk! If we take the time & look, we can find the answer to alot of our questions instead of complaining. The old way usually seems better because you know it. I liked the old way it was set up, but realize this is a work in process yet & am excited to think of how great it will be when finished.
Rawmama, from everything Kandace and Ray have posted, I would say this is DEFINITELY NOT the final product (For Example: see Ray's comment #4 on this thread). I, for one, am so excited with the features that HAVE improved and am having lots of fun seeing how they all work. I agree the pictures are a plus, and they're still there. It's possible to do an advanced search and find the images. The biggest advantage is that the site is now stable. We just need to be patient a little longer.
Thank you Waterbaby and Drgonfly. I keep thinking people will take the time to read the homepage with the links Kandace has provided. I keep saying the same thing over and over again. But, the teacher in my has a hard time "watching" people struggle. It's my nature to point them in the right direction. Gone Raw is really evolving into a fabulous and sophisticated site. I just wish people would take the time to enjoy the parts of our cup that are full. We need more optimists, less pessimists.
Kashikoi, if you’re talking about the favorites on your Internet browser, I can’t offer any suggestions. If, however, you’re referring to the “favorites” within the Gone Raw site, I may have good news. My “Recipe Box” is still there, as is my “Watched Topic” list. They’re in our profiles under “My Favorites.” The blue subheadings are clickable links. All my favorite recipes seem to still be there. The forum topic list probably includes every forum I’ve EVER watched. There’s a delete column, so I’ve spent a little time cleaning mine up. The list is in chronological order by the date added to your list. I hope this has been good news for you.
PS: In case anyone hasn’t already discovered it, “Watch Topic” seems to have been replaced with “add to favorites.” The link is in the bottom left corner of the opening pane for the threads.
