Attention Organic Gardeners

I went to see a friend a few weeks ago and as I entered the subdivision, there were signs all over saying that there would be a spraying throughout the night over the entire neighborhood for bugs and mosquitos. The signs stated that “for your safety, please keep yourself and pets indoors after 10 pm.” My first thought was, ‘well, there goes peoples organic gardens’. Apparently those opposed to this did not have a say in the matter.

I recommend container gardening unless you have a farm – you never know if/when this will happen in your neighborhood.

  • Mckinney, Texas is where my friend lives.

  • I never thought of that but yes, they have been spraying for gypsy moths all around my area. I am in Southern Ontario. :(

Good thing my veggies are all in containers, but now in another Ga. drought, they are quite unhappy there. I use all the grey water i can recycle to water them and fertilize regularly with my fabulous raw food compost, but alas, they hot and tired just like all of us here. I think you’ll read about us soon here—the lake which supplies drinking water to 4 million Georgia residents is 20 feet below normal. Not only that, but people are still swimming in it and boating on it. As a New Englander living in the south, this is insane!. In the Boston area, you cannot even swim in a reservoir used for drinking water. I am so alone on my island here. Thank goodness for all of you. Why are southerners so a$$ backwards??!! More importantly, what can I do to help beyond what we do at home? Does anyone know how to make a receptacle in the toilet tank to reduce the water per flush? We don’t flush unless necessary, but certain beer drinkers urine reaks!
