Better than any chocolate bar out there!

lzhptlzhpt Raw Newbie

This has been my favorite afternoon quick treat and today i Goji’d it. Can’t really post it as a recipe ‘cause it’s been out there in so many forms, but for all newbies who like chocolate and haven’t been able to duplicate a harder version, here it goes, 2-3T raw cacao powder a wee bit of agave (2t) 1/4 c at most coconut oil—brought to liquid in a bowl of warm water (I put the jar in the water) 2T goji berries It all goes in the vitamix. I scoop it out to a small bowl and freeze until solid—3-5 min. It’s so good, you won’t need to buy any pre-made chocolate ever!

Sounds similar to what I make. This blows cadbury out of the water! You will never look at comercial choco. the same way agina!!

  • I like to make raw cacao butter chocolate. Sometimes I even make white chocolate with maple crystals! Yum!

  • Does it melt or get all gooey after you take it out of the freezer? Do you store these in the freezer or fridge? Thanks for the recipe. Marcy

  • Izhpt- whew I made the earth balls they were a hit, my daughter is having a problem going to bed. LOL

I make my chocolate with Carob (i can’t have caffeine – found in Cacao)... but, my chocolate never hardens. Do you know what i’m doing wrong??? I put it in the freezer and it just never hardens into a regular chocolate bar. Is this because i’m using carob instead of cacao? I’m just not sure. It tastes awesome, but it’s quite messy and not easy to travel with. Help!

I’d love for this to stick around long enough for me to have to think about storage, but i would overeat chocolate so I only make a small amount at a time. I try to use as little of the liquid—agave and coconut oil as possible, making the mixture rather thick and it freezes to a hard wax-like consistency—enough that it breaks to eat, but won’t snap keeping your hands clean for travel. This is because as the coconut oil warms in your hand (becomes liquid at 70 deg) you have a bit of a mess. Roll into small balls and store in the freezer or fridge, depending on how hard you want your chocolate. Ardesmond—new pic!—I also did not sleep well after eating those earth balls at night. I’m going to try them with dates next time instead of raisins.

Thanks Izhpt… i’ll try decreasing the amount of coconut oil next time. Even when i was taking it out of the freezer it was pliable! So, thanks for the recommendation!

    Okay, I’m trying this tonight!

To really get it solid like a regular chocolate bar you probably have to use cacao butter as a base.

rawclaire, I love the combo of maple and chocolate! Where do you get maple crystals from? Are they raw?

I think that’s the trick, Carrie6292. Sometimes, it’s a perfect harder chocolate, others i have to wait longer in the freezer for the consistency. i usually eyeball the ingredients. Try just enough agave/coconut oil to wet your choc/goji mixture. I use less agave b/c I like a more bitter choc.

  • Izhpt…you blend the goji berrys in the blender with the other stuff, right? ...or do you had them later like raisons?

  • Has anyone tried to put cocoa in there coffee grinder. I tried this and it just way to grainy nothing like the powdered version I used to buy. Problem is I have a large bag of the nibs and I can’t find a way to use them up, except for the Earth Balls which are so good I feel guilty eating them.

I’ve put them in a raw pie crust before (the nibs). You can add them into the chocolate bar too at the end! Mairzee dotes (cute) I blended the gojis—they can be a little chewy whole.

I’ve tried to use the grinder also. It doesn’t work well at all for the nibs. Maybe try putting them into ice creams or make a trail mix of goji, pumpkin seeds, and the nibs. I tried that once and it was quite tasty.
