the brand new, all glittering 80/10/10 - 30 day challenge
Where can I find some of Harley’s posts?
beware…he pulls no punches….i actually find him very inspirational…..it’s a little frustrating though, ‘cause sometimes with all his passion he misses the opportunity to really answer those with questions clearly enough….i s’pose it’s understandable because he is reaping the daily benefits so obviously that , for him, there is no room for doubt….he is right, though , in encouraging people to ‘just do it’
and if you want to read some of the more ‘reasoned’ arguments behind what he says then buy the book….definately an interesting read
oh ya, the book is the an absolute treasure. I need to read it again…but I gave it to my Dad and I think he just shelved it :(
hey RawK—I’m getting back into running more quickly than anticipated. My mind is more ready than my body, I’m afraid—I have been experiencing quite a bit of soreness. Do you mind if I pick your brain a bit? What is your typical daily intake look like? What about your average workout? Thanks so much, I totally appreaciate it!
I just wanted to say to the one writing about weaning off of anti-depressants that I also have depression and have high hopes the 811 diet will help. I have been on anti-depressants since 1992 and have had depression since I was a child – I’m 41 now. I won’t go off the meds until I feel safe, but I will reduce the amount. I just can’t risk what will happen if I go into a deep depression. I need to be here for my kids.
But I only now found out about the diet. I’ve been pigging out on fruit for a week, and only did two days of eating 2/3 or more raw. Today is my third day. I will go 100% when I get the logistics figured out – I didn’t plan starting, so I need to stock up on the fruits.
But, I am so curious because after only that much into the diet I already feel better. Can that be?
I’ve been vegetarian since 1995 and haven’t had cow’s milk or red meat for longer (except sometimes when I was pregnant). Still, my diet was between 25-30% fat. Monday I had just over 20% fat, and yesterday (Tuesday) I had it at 11%. But I had so much energy. Each day I only had one small to medium sized portion of cooked noodles with a bit of red sauce and pesto sauce. But I also felt really good emotionally. I exercise fairly regularly.
I hate to get my hopes up, but I will keep trying. Thank you for all the information and I will also keep researching and reporting…
Hello! I’m a newbie, I’ve been researching 811 all weekend long. I’ve read the pro’s and the con’s and I decided that I’wanted to try it. I have some more weight I need to lose and my trainer suggested I try this. She’s a raw vegan herself. I started as a vegetarian 9 months ago, then transitioned to vegan 3 months ago. I’m losing weight, but not as much as I should, so I’m giving this a go! I haven’t purchased the book yet, but I’m gonna follow pretty much what I can by what I read on forums and blogs. I started the transition on Sunday. Yesterday I had my last carb for the day (oatmeal). I’ve started a blog about it to, if you’d like to comment and suggest. http://veganlicious.mydietblogger.com/
Here’s what I’m getting by my research correct me if I’m wrong…..
I start the day with a green smoothie, like today (3 cups of papaya, 4 cups of spinach, 1 banana)
I eat every three hours, so I just ate a banana, 1 cup of blueberrie, and apple
For lunch I’m having a whole honey dew melon
Some more fruit for snack (Not sure what yet)
Then a large green salad for dinner
I do 30 min of cardio 5-6 x a week and strength train 3 x a week.
To lose I’m supposed to eat 1300-1500 cals a day, depending on activity, but I see that people are eating up to 2000 or more, are you guys still losing eating like that? I know that at least one meal has to be a mono meal.
Comments and suggestions are welcome!! Again, I have yet to buy the book and I will as soon as I can. I know some people fail at this without the book, but I’m gonna be very optimistic about it!!
Check out my blog and see what I ate yeserday!!
i’ve added your blog to the list of blogs…it’s good to post it at the end of your posts so people remember to check in
my advice would just be to get the book as soon as possible and just keep asking questions when unsure
you seem to going well, though
rawisnew re: mood – I don’t suffer from depression but i’ve noticed since i have been following 811 that my mood is much better – i’m more optimistic and relaxed (simply happier) I have kids too, and i’ve noticed i seem to have more patience now.
veganicious – re: calories – i am averaging 1500-1600 calories/day and steadily losing weight.
elbo – i’m in for july….
Has anyone seen a substantial weight-loss this month?
mimo22…cool, than I think I’m ok sticking to the 1500 w/activity. thanks!
I also think it makes you feel fantastic!
Congrats on feeling better already veganlicious…I echo el-bo in that you really should get the book.
I bought a Lot of blueberries and rasberries and cherries and am SO looking forward to freely binging on them tomorrow. Oh and I have bananas of all different ripenesses now too, lol.
mimo22 – re: depression/mood (i’m getting the hang of replying now I guess). Today was my third day of only doing 2/3-3/4 just fruits- though it might be even higher ratio. today i haven’t had anything cooked i guess, but maybe 200 calories of junk. that was also because of logistics – i need to stock up but have been too busy. but tomorrow a friend will give me a bunch of fruit and let me pick her brain on this.
but as tonight i was thinking that i felt RAW, but not in a bad way. i feel SO GOOD, more alive and i’m just on fruit, really. oh, i hope it lasts….
ejowett—so you are a little sore? how much have you been running? make sure to stretch some after a mile or so and then again after your run. i really recommend getting “the stick” to work your muscles post exercise.
as far as intake, im just eating tons of fruit all day and some greens at lunch and dinner. cantaloupe and watermelon—at least 3-4 lbs in the morning, then 8-12 bananas with spinach for lunch, grapes, mangoes, oranges, tomatoes, occasional hemp seeds later with romaine lettuce and more bananas. i take 3-4 dates in before i head out on my run. this weekend i will do a half marathon and probably take some dates along on my run so i can re-fuel midrun.
have you used cronometer to figure your own consumption? tho, you will know if you are not getting enough calories. on tuesday, i ran a 5k in 23:36 without any training for this speed…i was shot afterwards tho, and could tell i needed more energy (not enough dates i guess). your body will tell you what you need, just dont increase your weekly mileage too much. id say no more than a 20% increase any given week.
good luck—keep me posted.
Great to see some upbeat..loving it RAW 8/1/1 guys!! woohoo
Mono mealing orange juice myself right now..
but will be sure to check in on this thread..awesome :)
Hello, Im new to this web however I just bought 80/10/10. I begun a vegan 3 years ago , than raw back and forth but still can not lose my last 50 lb( lost 65 and need 50 more). I started 80/10/10 2 days ago but just fall again tasting cook beans and now feel horriblle. Stupid me!!! Anyway I think Dr. Graham is right about fat. I'm raw but absolutely love the raw desserts which are loaded with fat !!! Good fat but still fat. Gee and I was wondering I can loose weight having my deliciouse cheescake everyday lol. I hope I will find a support here. Thank you Elliot for starting the challenge. OOPS I just noticed you started June 1. O well I'm late but I'm in.
hun, you are a YEAR late! there is an 811 forum at www.30bananasaday.com, they'd probably love to give you support. 811 is clearly the way to go, for me at least. if you do go off of raw, it's really best to eat whole unprocessed foods that are naturally 811. I'd recommend making rice and potato and veggie type dishes. binging on beans or other non 811 ratio foods can really hurt you......... (they did me at least)
Gee you right! I'm so late lol. Thanks for advice!!!
I love the 30 bananas a day forum! Go there. :)
ha....I third this.
