Conventional Raw Food

Hi everyone,

I am not completely raw yet but am on my way. I am starting school in September and will have a very tight budget. I was wondering if buying conventional fruits and veggies is really bad if I only buy them for 1 year, while Im at school. I mean, will the benefits of being raw be diminished because it is not organic? And I mean Raw conventional food has GOT to be better for me than cooked food, right? Any thoughts and /or opinions welcome!

  • On some foods it doesn't really matter and on others it's definitely best to buy organic. This website has a list of the good and bad.

This is a quote from the book "The Ultra MindHealth Solution" that might be helpful if you can't get organic.

"You can also reduce your exposure to pesticides and bacteria by washing your produce well. Prepare a vegetable wash solution by adding one teaspoon of mild soap or one tablespoon of cider vinegar to one gallon of water. Wash your vegetables in this solution and rinse well. Use a vegetable brush on potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, or other hard produce whose skin you plan to eat."

Hope it goes well for you.

It's important to keep things in perspective. Eating raw fresh produce as opposed to cooked food is always a better choice.

I ate 100% conventional produce for over a year. The organic stuff was overpriced and bad quality. I would rather have great quality and reasonably priced conventional fruit any day! :)

I still don't eat organic, but much of it is locally grown. I always recommend checking out farms and farmers markets in your area.

Check the "dirty dozen" list of fruits and veggies with the most pesticides - discussed on this site and all over the net - and either buy those items organic or avoid them if you can't afford the organic versions.
