Definitely a Peace fan

jellibijellibi Raw Newbie

Hi everyone!

I haven’t posted on here for awhile because (gasp) I’ve been eating more cooked food again- it just feels right for me with the colder weather coming in. However, I have been browsing the posts to see what my old friends are up to….. AND HOLY MOLY you’ve been up to a lot with this whole Palin thing.

Anyway, I was thinking about this little story that I heard about Mother Theresa. It’s that someone once asked her to join a war protest and she refused. But she did tell them that if they ever have a peace rally to invite her and she’ll be there. I think it’s very wise because I know that whatever we put our energy towards will grow.

I am a firm believer that the reason why Bush won the last election (from an intuitive, energy standpoint- let’s leave out the logistics here; i.e Florida :) ) is because soooooo many people hated him. All of this hate actually generated energy in his favor. Let’s not let the same thing happen again.

That said—- is there anyway we can muster up as much energy and enthusiasm towards talking about peace, what we do want for our govt. etc, as we have on the other thread talking about what we don’t want.

Not sure if this will work but I thought I’d give it a try :)

    I guess I’ll start:

I really would like to see better healthcare in the US. There are so many people who need it.

And I would love to see the war end.

And I would love it if public education improved.

  • troublesjustabubbletroublesjustabubble Raw Newbie

jellibi! Thank you. I totally agree. I know that the Palin thread is dividing us and I’d rather not be a part of it(I know, I know, it’s because I’m a conservative and am gravely outnumbered there).

I’ll start by saying, A. I want the war to end and our troops to come home! B. I want the people of our country to get involved and vote! and C. I want us to make the necessary changes to keep our country from becoming more corrupt and in debt.

    I hope that’s a good start:) I’m a hippy

  • jellibijellibi Raw Newbie

:) troublesjustabubble: a conservative hippie :) Yes, the debt is an issue too. Amazingly, I don’t think about that as an issue as much; but you’re right. I would like our country to be debt-free too.

  • troublesjustabubbletroublesjustabubble Raw Newbie

I think if we were debt free alot of things would come more naturally such as better healthcare and education. Getting out of the war is probably the first thing to do in order to get out of debt.

I’m conservative in that I think smaller government is better. I don’t want them bigger because that means more of my life would be affected by them which would mean less freedom. I’m a hippie in that I want more freedom, less conformity, more self sufficiency and more open mindedness. I guess that’s my version of hippy:)

I thought of another one: I would love it if people in the US drove cars less. I mean a lot less. It would take total reorganization of our cities, but can you imagine if things were set up only for bikes/walking/and public transportation. That would be amazing!

I have really made a commitment not to drive and it has made my life much more happier. I’ve really connected with more people in my community because of it. I’m healthier because I’m always walking or on my bike, and it’s good for my daughter too.

I’m lucky because the public transportation in Portland is amazing. And I have a bike path that goes right from my neighborhood in a suburb to downtown Portland. It’s so great. I wish every city could have the bike-friendly, pedestrian-friendly, public transportation infrastructure that Portland Oregon has.

  • Jellibi- GREAT idea and wisdom! Thank you for starting this. I think you are completely right in knowing that what we focus on is what we create/get. So thank you for the reminder!

I see our country (and world) becoming tolerant of differences in each other and not feeling threatened by the differences.

I see us all gaining deeper understanding of how we all really just want the same basic things in the end (that is why we will be more tolerant of each other’s seeming small differences and not feeling threatened).

I see us recognizing that we must work WITH nature instead of against her, thereby gaining tremendous steps in new technology, alternative fuels and power, and sustainable, thriving communtities without ruining our Earth and feeling the need to fight for limited resources. We won’t have to give up our comfort, but we will return to a more respectful and appreciative living amongst nature. We will also recognize a deeper sense in ourselves when we start re-incorporating respect and honor of nature and our Earth into our everyday lives and ways of living.

I see better schooling/learning systems being created where children are encouraged to think outside the box and develop their innate and unique gifts that we each have to contribute to society to become better and better.

I see the need for sinking billions of dollars into war weaponry, nulcear arms, and spy technology – all the fear-based weapons of attack – dissolving because we won’t be fighting and threatening each other.

I see people becoming more empowered to take responsibility for their own lives, their own thinking and “becoming,” and loving this “new freedom.”

troubles: I just love that you are a conservative hippie. It’s very unique and provides you with a lot of interesting insights that are very interesting to read on these posts. so, thanks for being you :)

  • jellibijellibi Raw Newbie

Oh wow, aspire, you see so many beautiful things that it made me all teary-eyed.

  • troublesjustabubbletroublesjustabubble Raw Newbie

Aww, jellibi, thank you. And I totally agree with you on the public transportion. I live in Kansas City and we have HORRIBLE public transit. I live so locally that the only thing I have to drive a distance for is my job. I hate that I have to do this but fortunately have been blessed to be able to get a fuel efficient car. I’m trying my hardest not to use it:)

Aspire, wow! Beautiful! I love what you said about working with nature instead of fighting against it. That’s such a wonderful and profound concept. With the technology we have now we should be able to decrease our carbon footprint and increase the efficiency of our world in nature friendly ways.

  • Nice. Walking in LOVE and pouring our mind, body, spirit into positivity. I don’t want to waste time on anything else.

  • Jellibi…You are a smart Lady! I will be posting some of my desires for our future America a little later. But now, it’s almost time for me to get off of the internet…Peace! ;-)

  • iknikn

Thank you jellibi for this topic! You’re right, we attract the things into our life that our mind is preoccupied with. Yes, we should concentrate on what we would like to have and achieve not what we don’t like.

Aspire – what a wonderful “wish list” you have ! I agree with you on everything!

  • I’m sorry, but I think it is hard to discuss what we want for the country without making a highly politicized statement. People want the country out of debt – well, we were out of debt – under Clinton. Has that been forgotten? People want the troops home and safe – well they were home and safe – under Clinton. I am not saying that the country had no big problems under Clinton – it had many. But the country was not anywhere close to being in the sorry state that it is today. (But I want to note that even in that sorry state, it remains one of the best places in the world in which to live). Our country is in grave economic trouble. There are three main causes here – 1) a failure to properly regulate lending institutions which led to the housing bubble and current (and continuing for quite some time from here) housing crash. Too many homes were built and too much money was lent without regulation. 2) The attempts under the Bush administration to stimulate the economy failed. Tax cuts helped the wealthy while the middle class and poor were driven further under. (This factor is far less notable than the first, I think). 3) Iraq war. Why are we in this TRILLION dollar war? Because we were attacked by a group of people from Saudi Arabia. It does not make sense, and the war was entered into without listening to the experts who warned against it. As a direct result of the war, the price of crude oil has skyrocketing, causing a huge imbalance of American dollars flying out of our country. The country needs a decent energy policy stat. It needs a health care system that will address the fact that a huge portion of our population would be better off living in a country that takes care of all of its citizens. It needs a government that will protect children and guarantee education for all – not just for its richest. It needs a country that will foster domestic business instead of providing tax breaks for outsourcing. As Jellibi said, it needs a greater focus on public rather than personal transportation. And if transportation is personal, there should be incentives for hybrid cars rather than giant SUVs. It needs a government that will not willy-nilly invade another sovereign nation at the expense of their citizens and our soldiers – solderis who were sent into battle without adequate armor and with deception as a motivator. I don’t think Obama can fix all of these problems. But I think he is better equipped to make headway than McCain. The problems of this country multiplied exponentially under the current Republican administration, and McCain/Palin are not the people to break this trend. I am an independent and a liberterian. I voted for Nader in 2000 because he inspired me. I do not automatically vote Democrat, but in this election I am as strongly in the Democratic camp as is possible. It is not enough to sit back and say ‘I hope things get better.’ We all owe a duty to this country to analyze what has gone wrong and see which party is proposing changes to address those wrongs.

  • For those who are qualified and can have the ear of leaders of our country or BE a leader, then great. we need to educate ourselves to the problems and roots of those problems and find ways we can make a difference in those areas that are practical. But we can ALL make a difference one by one with the people we come into contact with this way:

hey DagnyTaggart- I do remember that we were out of debt under Clinton and it’s definitely worth mentioning because it means that it IS within our reach since it was less than ten years ago.

Good point about lending. We do need regulation because it seems rather obvious that we have gotten incredibly out of control. I don’t know if attempts to stimulate the economy are even the answer. I think the American people need to really buckle down and look at their lives. We are a wasteful people and that is why we’re having the fuel crisis. We love our F-150’s and SUV’s and big highways but in times like this we’re wishing we had better public transit. It seems silly.

aspire- wow, I just finished watching the video you left a link to. It is a lot to think about. Ultimately, it is an important message about love. Thank you.

dagny- I am grateful that you are there to analyze and be logical about things and remind us about all of the things that you feel strongly about.

mamamilk- I’m really excited to visit the links that you left but my head is spinning from aspire’s video :) I’ll watch them soon because I’m very interested in learning about what I can do to make a difference.

  • It’s not a politically deep idea or anything. Just simply the concept of showing people (even unlikely people) love and challenging them to think and show love as well, can bring positive change to our world!!

  • Me – I think Aspire and Mamamilk kind of said it all…

But most of all, in reference to Aspire’s post

...I truly agree and see, above everything…

“people becoming more empowered to take responsibility for their own lives, their own thinking and “becoming” and loving this “new freedom.””

What a strong, impressive, and beautiful/loving thought! I truly agree. Becoming more at one with Nature/Mother Earth.

Does it count, if I am trying to slowly poison society with “morsbags” at my farmers market?:)

  • DagnyTaggart – you said everything that I’ve thought.

In regards to visualizing a peaceful and harmonious society:

I see people across the US buying organic food, choosing more sustainable products, and the businesses providing consumers with healthier and more sustainable choices.

I see children learning to be kind and gentle with their friends. I see children considering their best friends to be like sisters, even when 1 is adopted from China, and the other is half white and half black.

I see 12 year old girls interested in hybrid cars, and conservation. I this same 12 year old girl ask me if I need her to babysit, since she is ready to for some more responsibility. I see her signing up for drama class because she’s so shy in class she can barely speak her mind. I see children seeking to improve themselves and empower themselves. I see the next generation becoming thoughtful, caring, and empowered.

I see all of these things happening right now, and I see it continuing to grow.

  • jellibijellibi Raw Newbie

Remember that time when you were a kid and you didn’t quite understand the concept of “owning property” or immigration yet… and the world seemed like this place where you could just roam free and meet people and live wherever you wanted to without having to worry about money or laws, etc. I see the world feeling like that again.

And growing food! I see food, herb, and flower gardens around everyone’s homes (no more lawns!). Nobody “works” anymore in the sense that we understand it now because everyone grows their own food and tends to their little homes that they have set up on their perfect place on earth. And, somehow, this is all done in accordance with eachother :)

  • jellibijellibi Raw Newbie

mammamilk, that video made me cry. Jeeze, I’m emotional today :) In a good way, though!

Everyone should take a look at that short video, but especially parents and teachers.

    Thank you for sharing it!
