Dehydrating Sprouted Lentils

Do dehydrated sprouts such as lentil and mung taste better- less beany? How long will they keep? do they still need to be stored in the fridge?

Sorry, I don't know because I like them without dehyrating them.

Have you tried them in salads? When mixed with a few other ingredients the flavor is not overpowering (at least for me). I don't think I could would enjoy them too much by themselves.

  • I sprout pretty often and like the taste fresh just fine but hate waste so dry spouts when they might be on their way out or if I know I won't get to them...mung I've never dried (don't to it tons)...lentils yes as a burger (mashed and mixed) and whole in a "pulp patty" w/ juice pulp...I tried them with spices once as a snack food type thingy (garbanzos too) but it was a flop for me ...ummm I sometimes store stuff chilled or leave it room temp...you can kind of tell by how moist it remains...when in doubt chill is best I guess... I've been drying lots of stuff lately to prolong use so I say try it and play around...

  • thanks guys!

  • Hi!

I have dehydrated lentils and it works just fine, I rinse them then dehydrate at about 115 till completely crispy. I have also then ground them into a flour like consistency with my spice mill and kept them in the fridge for a while, and in fact I think I have some in there from a few months ago that I just used in a soup. I have been meaning to try them as a flour. :)

  • Harmonylia,

Thanks you so much! How do they taste dehydrated? does that strong beany taste go aways a little? That's such a good idea. I just got my Excalibur and I can only tolerate sprouts (other than broccoli which I need to sprout) soaked in braggs then added to something.

Do you ever add them to green smoothies? How does it tastes? Thanks again!

  • I was so pissed!!! I attempted to :( sprout an once of broccoli (not cheap) and it molded!!!

I even used a sprouting jar that I bought at a wholefoods store... :(

But I figured out what went wrong. I was rinsing too often and never let the seeds/sprouts dry before I rinsed again.

Well, I gave lentils another shot. They look great! So I'm going to allow them to continue to sprout a little longer and then pull the seed off and dehydrate and blend them to a powder.

Thanks guys! I love this site...

  • OH good, I am glad the lentils worked for you! Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you, I have always used lentils in salads and never really tried them in smoothies, but let me know if they work, I suppose after drying and grinding they would be great to add to a smoothie, let me know for sure if you do it. My kids like the sprouts once they have really greened up and will eat them plain so I am not sure if they just like the beany taste or if it does go away lol, hope you can use them!
