dehydrator without teflex sheets?

Im getting my new dehydrator in from Excalibur today. I realized the day after I ordered it I would need those teflex sheets, so I ordered those to. I think I am getting those a bit later. Probably next week.

I want to make all those crackers/chips/breads ive been reading on here. Are there things I can pick up from the grocery store that can be a temporary subsistute until I get my sheets in?

  • i used parchment while i waited for my teflex. Not as good, but it got the job done. :)

  • parchment? like canvas?

natural wax paper with olive oil sprayed on it before you apply your batters etc.

  • Thanks!

Parchment paper works better (for me). It dries food faster than if using teflex. I’ve made several nut patties and cookies… and when I used the teflex, they were always moister at the bottom/center. I had to flip them over! Something I never did when using parchment paper. I tried this more than once… but I still like parchment. No flipping-over…yet. I haven’t used teflex since.

You can get brown parchment paper too. Teflex/teflon is not good for you. If you want to use them, I read here that you should clean them only with a soft sponge.

  • I have found the same result as germin8 when using parchment paper vs teflex. I am able to flip my crackers in 3 hours vs 8-10. And once they flip they dry and crisp quickly. I actually had some crackers, and nut patties turn out rancid and yucky with teflex because it took forever to dehydrate. Big Energy savings with the parchment. Plus parchment sheets can be used over and over. I started when we move I misplaced the teflex and thought I’d try it before ordering another set.
