Diagnosed with Candida - Help

My 17 yr old daughter had been a vegetarian for 2 years. Last year she had surgery that required a lot of antibiotics. Since then she has felt sluggish, bloated and a lot of abdominal pain. She has been diagnosed with candida and was told to follow a strict diet that included meat and eggs. She doesn’t like the meat part at all and has been feeling really tired. Is there a better approach to getting rid of the candida? How long does it take?

There is so much information online, it’s a fairly complicated issue so there’s no easy answer. There’s a book and website called The Yeast Connection you can check out. You can also look into Dr. Gabriel Cousens’ book Rainbow Green Live Food Cuisine which has a 3 month diet that deals with candida among other toxins. In a nutshell you’re eliminating anything with sugar, including fruit, for 3 months but at the same time eating high quality foods which he explains in great detail. He moves on to a transitional diet and then eventually you end up with a healthy diet that includes sweets in moderation, but at that point your body can handle it. The eating plan is tough to do for a lot of people (including me) I made it a month, and I also have taken cleansing kits, oregano oil and Pau D’Arco tea. I’m inclined to believe the best results will come from an eating plan like this that starves the candida along with anti-fungals. I don’t know of anything simpler that’s as effective, unfortunately, but it can be dealt with.

  • Thank you so much Amysue. It was actually my best friend whose daughter I am Godmother to the posted the request for information. We’re getting the Rainbow Green Live Food Cuisine book and checking for other information on the internet. My God daughter has really been having a tough time with the meat.

  • In absolutely everything I’ve read about candida, there’s no real evidence/need to include meat or eggs in a curative diet. Like Amysue said, the main thing is avoiding triggering foods, such as fruit, sugar, and flours, and including antifungals, such as garlic and coconut oil.

100% for 6 weeks works every time! I don’t know why on a Raw Food website no one has suggested this to you. Our immune system will cure us of anything when it is working properly. The only way to get it working properly is to stop eating cooked food completely. When we heat food above the human body temperature of 38 degrees, it changes. This heated food effects our health much differently than natural, unchanged foods.

Prior to 1930, It was believed that whenever we ate, there was an immune system response as if we were poisoned. An immediate rise in white blood cells, by about 300%. White blood cells are our body’s soldiers, they are produced to fight off threats, like poison, trauma or disease. This reaction to eating was called Digestive Leukocytosis and thought to be normal.

In 1930, Dr Paul Kouchakoff conducted research to compare the effects of cooked food versus raw food. He discovered that Digestive Leukocytosis occurred only when cooked or processed food was eaten. He found that there is no immune system response when we eat our food in it’s natural, unheated, unprocessed state.

Because of Digestive Leukocytosis, eating cooked food keeps our immune system in a constant state of emergency. Even what we call allergies are just our over burdened immune system literally freaking out when a new irritant is encountered.

Another immune system response to cooked food is mucus. When cooked food is eaten, our bodies try to protect us from this invasion by creating mucus. This mucus makes a wall between the food and our bodies. The mucus builds up in our guts, causing Mucoid Plaque. This is a rubbery hose which lines the intestines and severely reduces the amount of nutrition we can take in from our food.

After years of cooked food, our immune system literally gets worn out. We become run down, and illness becomes a normal part of life. We think that we are just ageing. We believe we have no choice other than to be sick.

When we eat Purely Raw foods, our immune system rests and recovers. People who switch to eating only raw foods always experience the same thing. Lifelong problems, conditions and diseases go away, usually within weeks or months.

People eating Purely Raw have experienced complete reversals of cancers, diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, autism, depression, skin disease, etc. The list goes on and on. Our immune system can heal anything, if it’s not continually engaged in a war against cooked food. Our bodies treat cooked food as poison, this of course means, that cooked food is poison.

When food is heated, the enzymes are also destroyed. Enzymes are the life force in food, the magic elixir of Life. They merge with our bodies and tell us how and where to use the food we eat. It’s the enzymes which tell the vitamin C in the orange to go and become part of our skin. Some believe that enzymes are destroyed by stomach acids, but research shows that enzymes are mainly absorbed in the mouth, before our food gets into the stomach.

Our body cannot communicate with the food unless the enzymes are there. Raw food contains its own digestive enzymes and literally digests itself inside you. Raw food breaks itself down and goes where it is needed, and all is well.

Without it’s enzymes, cooked food sits in you like a brick. Your body has to use its own digestive enzymes to deal with the cooked food. Many now believe that humans only have enough digestive enzymes to last them into their 40

Wow Chris, great reply!! Thanks for all the motivating info!!

  • I had a candida problem too. Raw is good but stay away from fruit and sweets. It is that simple.

  • I was diagnosed with Candida last summer and was pretty strict with my diet, but speeded up the normalizing process with a couple of products. One was Tri-Guard, which is grapefruit seed extract, colloidal gold and tea tree oil. The next one was Pro-Silver 240, which you can only get now as Pro-Silver 100, so you have to take more. It doesn’t taste bad like Tri-Guard. You may also want to investigate MMS. That is what I’d try if I were diagnosed with Candida now. Supplemental probiotics are helpful as well.

Great info Chris. Six weeks is not too long either!

And, yes… Cousens book was an interesting read. I even thought to try it… just because I eat a lot of sugar. But, I haven’t tried it.

Wow Chris!!! thank you so very much for that post!!!

  • Young coconuts. This is what the oriental people use. I used to take caprylic acid in a pill, but sometimes it makes me throw up, or just get real nauseated, so it is better just to eat young coconuts. Also, raw garlic, red raspberry leaves, currants and black walnuts. Chris mentioned totally raw. Right on. That way all of the enzymes can help you properly farm your intestines.

Thanks for the information, Chris! Now I have an inspiring yet concise response to everyone who asks me why I eat raw.

  • Wow! I am just overwhelmed by all of the great support from the members of this community. This website has really changed my life. I am so excited about all of this information that has been provided and cannot wait to help my Goddaughter who has really had a bad time with meat being prescribed to her diet to fight the candida.

Chris, I would just like to say how much I appreciate all the information that you and Zoe provide to the community. Have you moved to the States yet? Your website has been so motivating for me and I look forward to the day when I can say I’m 5 years raw.

This transition is changing my perception on so many things. I really love food again. I enjoy preparing my meals now and look forward to shopping and picking only the best produce. I’m having a real love affair with food now since I view it as life force and medicine.

Amysue, anngoingraw, jenoz and rosiee thank you so much for the help and support. I know how much eating meat is bugging my Goddaughter. What is MMS?

  • MMS is a whacky I-can’t-believe-I’m-buying-this product that seems too weird and too good to be true. I found it via a recommendation from my Quantum Techniques practitioner. They said they’d had good results with it for all sorts of things. It was developed (or adapted?) to treat malaria and will basically (theoretically) whack any acidic nasties from your body, leaving only good bacteria, etc. Its cheap enough to try, tho it does have a somewhat unpleasant taste, IMHO.

I’m only the messenger so please do not expect me to explain or debate these claims! I only know that something that I did about the time that I started using this cured some multi-year nagging physical problems that MIGHT have been caused by retained viruses or something?? Like my shoulder lacked mobility from a torn rotator cuff that I hurt 15 years ago, and now it is all of a sudden fine??

  • Jenoz is MMS raw? Will whole foods have it?

  • As far as I know, the only place you can buy it is online. I don’t know if it is technically raw, but then I don’t know if most liquid supplements or alternative meds are technically raw. My goal is to recover and keep my health and reduce my risk of future illness. When the universe gives me things that seem bizarre, I try to ask why I am learning this now, like when I “accidently” heard David Wolfe speak and began to learn what eating raw foods meant. For me, MMS seems to be one of those things.

MMS raw? :) It’s chlorine dioxide, it’s Stabilized oxygen with added acetic acid where not the oxygen but the chlorine dioxide ion acts as the oxidizer… Jim Humble lets you download part 1 of his book breakthrough (here ; http://miraclemineral.org/part1.php)

  • germin8germin8 Raw Master

Ooo, thanks for that reply Kevyn. Hmmm, I wonder why the oxidzer plays an important role. I’ll have to come back and re-read this entire posts and links. Sounds interseting and could be something I need to know for my own journey to abundant health. :o)

rosiee, yes… no fruits. I totally agree (but it’s tough).

Hmmmm, is candida always accompanied by bloating and gas?

Will a doctor diagnose candida… or only a natural doctor (naturo/homeo)?

Strangely, gas can be produced when going raw. So, for some going 6 weeks raw may not be as beneficial, unless done properly. And, I wouldn’t know what that is completely, except for eliminating waste and reducing sugar/sweet-type foods.

I have experienced increased gas when going raw… and someone I know experienced the same thing. I think it’s blood gas, or something like that according to Matt Amsden.

edit but, it could be according to Matt Monarch. (I have to check.)

  • In my experience, an MD will only diagnose Candida if you have recurrent vaginal or topical infections, and then the “cure” is pills.

You can Google “Candida Spit Test” and test yourself for free in the privacy of your own home.

Candida isn’t always accompanied by bloating and gas. Different people have different symptoms.

  • ZanzibarrrZanzibarrr Raw Newbie

oh yes no fruits, soooooooooooooo (ooooo) hard, I get soooooooooooo tense! I drink loads of water to feel a bit full, but… that’s not really enough, anyone has an idea for the hangover etc..? :) :)

  • daniefondaniefon Raw Newbie

I recently tried kombucha and love it!! I am wondering if it will help with candida also since it is rich in probiotics. I do know that it fills me up and as wacky as it sounds really makes me feel….hard to describe, but, healthy might be a start. When I read others talk about that, I thought they were crazy, until I started drinking it! So, maybe it will help in two ways, can’t hurt to try it for sure.

  • germin8germin8 Raw Master

Thanks jenoz. I forgot about that test. I had heard of it before.

  • ZanzibarrrZanzibarrr Raw Newbie

OMG, and what about fatty fruits!? Do you think people that I can quit having my 6 avocados a day?

  • que ????

  • Dr. Douglas Graham says to cut way back on fats and eat plenty of fruit to get rid of candida.

  • germin8germin8 Raw Master

Yes, I remember… at Boutenko’s lecture she mentioned (that someone told her) that candida is due to (or fed by?) fat. Unfortunately, there was no explanation of this.

  • actually it is the combination of too much fat and fruit

if i may quote doug graham

“Excess fat is the culprit in candida, not sugar, per se. When fat levels in the blood rise, so does blood sugar, because excess fat inhibits insulin from performing its function of escorting sugar out of the bloodstream. The excess fat lines the blood vessel walls, the cells, insulin receptor sites, the sugar molecules themselves, and the insulin with a thin coating of fat, thus blocking and inhibiting normal metabolic activity.

Too much sugar in the blood is as life threatening as too little and can result in serious illness or death. Yeast, or candida, is a constant presence in the blood; it serves as a life preservation mechanism, blooming when there is an excess of sugar in the blood stream to bring blood sugar down to a non-threatening level. When the sugar is distributed and used by the cells of the body, the yeast quickly dies off as it is supposed to.

If fat levels stay chronically high due to a poor diet, sugar will remain in the bloodstream and feed the large candida colonies instead of feeding the 18 trillion cells of your body. Starved for fuel, these cells can no longer metabolize energy, and you become tired, and feel rundown. Because all carbohydrate, fat, and protein that we eat is converted to simple sugar (glucose) if it is to be used by the cells for fuel, the way out of this cycle is not to eat less sugar, but to consume less fat. When fat levels drop, the sugar starts to get processed and distributed again, and the yeast levels drop because there is no longer excess sugar available.”

so, you can eliminate either fruit or fat to eliminate the candida bloom…..you have to chose whether it makes more sense to eliminate fruit or fat for your diet…

of course , you can also buy a candida cleanse from david wolfe for $200….of course , you’ll have to quit fruit too….having to quit fruit and then paying on top…double whammy :o(

  • germin8germin8 Raw Master

el-bo Thanks for that info! So, for how long would one have to give up fruit or fat?

  • I’m wondering if anyone has a few recipes that they could share. I’ve been struggling with candida, and can’t imagine not eating any fruit or grains for several months! I have no idea what to make, especially because my daughter is allergic to nuts, so I’m hesitant to eat so many nuts. I can’t deal with uncooked beans, so I’ve been staying away from them… avocado has been key in my diet.

Well, I’m sure I’ll figure out something to eat… I need to finally buy a juicer and make some green juices.
