The difference between staying raw and cheating.

I started this raw thing about a month ago, and haven’t really had any desire to ‘cheat’ – until yesterday. We did a small birthday party for one of my kid’s friends, and I had a small piece of homemade, gluten free, angel food cake. About half an hour later, I started feeling horrible. No energy, vision got spotty, I was irritable. I assumed it was the sugar in the cake. Took a nap, was fine.

This morning, my husband made eggs for our kids, and then he went to the store to get me fresh blueberries for my green smoothie. While he was gone I absentmindedly ate a couple spoonfuls of those scrambled eggs.

Again, within 30 minutes I felt horrible. By the time hubby got home from the store I was exhausted, vision was off, I had no energy, was dizzy and off balance, and I was moody as all get out.

I ate some watermelon and drank a bunch of distilled water to help clear out my system, and took a nap. An hour later, when I got up, I was feeling better. Not perfect, but better. I’ve come to the conclusion that my body got very used to the raw food quickly, and that anything cooked will cause a reaction.

I have multiple sclerosis and have been ovo vegetarian for over 14 years, I’ve been completely off processed foods for about 3 years now, and for the last year, the only cooked foods I’ve eaten have been dinners with my family. I’m surprised that in only 3 1/2 weeks raw my body has started reacting to cooked foods.

I’m going to stay with it, since I feel SO much better on 100% raw, but I’m wondering if other people have equally strong reactions to cooked foods, or if this is specific to my ms. (ms 20 years. treated with diet, supplements and ldn)

  • Yep.. I am the same way. I am super sensitive and have been “allergic” to lots of food, so if I eat any offenders, I get sick right away. With MS, I am sure your immune system is sensitive like mine. :)

I had a bite of my children’s eggs yesterday too, and within an hour, my CFS flared up and I had to lay down as well. I hear ya!!

When I first went Raw, I didn’t react that severely if I had something cooked vegan, but it did upset my stomach a little.

However, over time, as I continued 100% Raw for extended periods of time, and then had a little cooked vegan at a meal on a rare occasion, I tolerated it better and better. I believe my body thoroughly cleaned out, I filled it with amazing nutrients and now I happily live a HRAV (High Raw, All Vegan) lifestyle and I love it. I feel wonderful, healthy, full of energy and so happy :)

I’m a firm believer that we’re all different based on our past experiences, immediate environment, stress levels and toxic load, so we all react differently. I also feel that even “that” changes with the individual over time. So, just because you react poorly to a bite of something now (although, you did eat animal products which I’d completely stay away from) doesn’t mean you always will react that way to cooked food, especially if it’s vegan… low-fat vegan better yet.

    Cheers,

    Kristen Suzanne

I wasn’t 100% raw when I ate some cooked food again but I my body just said: I don’t like it cooked. (Well, it let me know that with the usual methods: all physical inconvenients came back (ie allergy).
