Eye Sight

I was wondering if any one knew of anything natural that improves eyesight? My eyes keep getting worse :/

Sprouts, I just have read it in the internet i have not any experience. Here you have the link: http://www.doctoryourself.com/eyesight.html

  • It wouldn’t hurt to eat more sprouts, even if it doesn’t help. I like them. Thanks :)

your eyes are a muscle and need to be exercised to stay “fit.” here are some links i found when mine were bothering me.

    yoga for the eyes

    another one

also, my friend recommended hot compresses to relax the muscles before bed. that worked best of all for me.

Yoga for the eyes? It looks like just exercising the eye’s movement. Hmmm… interesting that it would improve vision.

(disclaimer: i am NOT a scientist) i think the principle of it is something like this: from computer screens to books, we overexert certain muscles in the eyes, while others get neglected. our eyes get overworked focusing straight ahead and on short distances, but are lazy on the periphery, since we rarely pay attention to our peripheral vision…

I think there are a few books on this. I think they go more in the vein of “stop wearing your glasses” and “don’t look at certain things to long” – things like TVs and computers (which might be hard in todays world).

there are tons of books on amazon about it: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_i_0?ie=UTF8&rs=&keywords=natural%20eyesight&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Anatural%20eyesight%2Ci%3Astripbooks

I had my eyes lasered about 6 years ago and my vision is so perfect now – no more headaches – I can use the computer for hours and my eyes don’t bother me. I feel like I have superman eyes. I had really bad eyesight before that – my eyes kept getting worse and worse too – i couldn’t even wear contacts anymore because they had to curve them too much because of my astigmatism.

Here is a thread from another raw forum on it – maybe something of help on there: http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?p=415211

Bilberries are very good for improving eyesight and not watching too much tv or overdoing pc work. Take eye breaks to just move them around and do palming. Rub your hands vigorously together and then place over the eyes. Nice.

good question saturnina. I just got a new pair too…actually, my vision got worse… but I hope it gets better.

How long have you been raw or what have you been doing… that your vision improved?

understandable…about not believing your eyes. That’s happened to me before. :o)

  • Thanks everyone. Anything helps at this point because every time I get an eye exaim, my eyes are worse. I have an astigmatism in my left eye and I’m so near sighted with out my contacts everyone’s a blurry shape. It’s actually getting hard to see with my contacts IN as well :/

  • Saw something about this. Try looking at a fence near too, then slowly move away, then slowly back and forward, for half an hour, each and every day. Sorry, got a little poetic there, worth trying tho. Laser surgery is the way i went ages ago, i was short sighted, one eye was treated, giving me long vision in that eye, the other eye was left alone, leaving nearsight, it worked perfectly for years, did’nt need spec’s, but now my nearsight has faded and needs laser treatment too, afterwards i will have to wear spec’s to read.

  • I wouldn’t want to get laser surgery if I would still need glasses. I’ll try some eye exercises and eat lots of sprouts lol

Sprouts? Really? Cause I’ve been juicing LOTS of carrots, and I think it’s helping a little, but it’s taking too long for me. :/ I’ll check out that yoga for eyes thing, thanks! :D

  • Good thread :) Does anyone have more info on wheatgrass benefits for the eyes? My eyes have grown rapidly worse over the past few years :(

  • I would like to know that too. Wheatgrass does have a lot of benefits…

  • The part of your eyes responsible for focusing/nearsightness/farsightedness/astigmatism is not a muscle. It’s actually the lens changing shape by way of zonules (strings) and the axial length of your eyeball. Astigmatism is actually a fairly good genetic variation, b/c it will give you some vision in all distances even when you are past 40 and need reading glasses.

Your best bet for improving your vision if you are nearsighted is probably the excercise given by badnews above – you might try focusing in the distance as far away as you can and then trying to move out from there.

If you are doing a lot of near work, then take breaks and look far away so that your focusing system doesn’t get stuck at that near distance and increase your nearsightedness.

As far as astigmatism goes, I don’t know how you’d improve that – farsighted people might try to do more near stuff and not take the breaks when they are working at near…

It’s my profession and I don’t really have any scientific or even anecdotal evidence for either working, but I see people getting worse all the time. I’ve tried myself to reduce my prescription, to no avail.

Being healthy is a good first step though. I’ve seen things like glaucoma get under control with dietary changes and exercise.

  • What a coincidence! I was just wondering this morning, am I hallucinating or is my vision sharper? I guess it might be.

  • I really haven’t been raw for long at all. I think I found out about it a week ago, and have since then added more raw foods into my diet.

Since the beginning of the month I have taken vitamin and flavonoid supplements though, to help with my pollen allergy, so those could have something to do with it as well…

I’m still not sure if I believe my eyes.
