fatigue ??

hey everyone!

i started eating raw food last year but only for a few weeks at time and with good length breaks in between and then for a month about in december and now i have been raw for almost two months.... every time so far i haven't really detoxed much, i've been vegetarian all my life so im not to supprised. however lately i have been supremely fatigued, like all i want to do is lay on the coach all day. This is completely depressing to me considering usually i am very active. Anyone have any ideas ?? i usually eat lots of fruit, at least one huge salad a day, and nut & seeds in all kinds of prepared goodies. anywho i really dont want to stop eating my happy food but if i can't find the energy to go to work then somethings will have to change. PLEASE HELP.

I am 100% sure this is your body detoxing. I've been 90-95% raw since January and for the months of Feb-April, all I did was sleep and lay on the couch. I would take a nap every day and didn't have a lot of energy for working out either.

I feel very active and rested now though so the tiredness should pass for you. My usual night's sleep is 8-10 hours so I don't need a nap in the day.

  • that is good to hear, at least i know im not alone. i wonder if there is anything that can be done to help give me a little pep in my step. I am a server at a very busy restaurant and need do a little something to keep going. any suggestions??

An earlier comment for someone else may help you -

In the film "Food Matters" (foodmatters.tv) there are some convincing descriptions of why detoxification is necessary - such as you can't push good nutrients into your cells if they're already full of junk. The junk doesn't go anywhere on its own.

My husband has been doing colon hydrotherapy every two or three weeks lately. When he first did 100% raw years back the detox was really difficult for him. Recently when he went 100% again, while doing CH regularly, his detox symptoms were mostly nonexistent. So at this point he reports that it's not only necessary, at least initially when going raw, it's the way to make sure you're getting all the benefits of stuffing yourself with healthy raw foods. This is not to say that CH is the only detoxification regimen out there, but it is rather effective.

  • Hey,

Raw Chel- I have similar problems with fatigue- I have a hypothyroid issue and so am tired all the time anyway, but recently I've been absolutely exhausted. I'd like to try colon hydrotherapy, for detox reasons and because I have a really hard time digesting anything but fruit and blended greens (which probably means I shouldn't eat much besides that, but I'm not quite there yet).

Suasoria- How much does a colon hydrotherapy session cost? How many times is your husband going to go?

    Peas,

    Emily

  • Hi Raw Chel,

I would hesitate on chalking it all up to detox symptoms. You said that you eat "nut & seeds in all kinds of prepared goodies" in addition to fruits and at least one salad. What kind and how much of these prepared goodies are you eating in a day and when are you eating them?

I ask because these things are often loaded with fat that taxes your digestive system and saps your energy, especially if the nuts and seeds are combined with more oils and dried fruits. When I first went raw, I was eating pretty simply, but then when I got mixed up in the raw chic community in LA and started eating more of these dehydrated and mashed together goodies, I started losing energy, feeling sick and fatigued. I read Fred Patenaude's book Raw Secrets back then, and he talked about the same thing, so once I readjusted my diet, my energy started coming back.

It could be detox, but it could also be your diet. Just think you should explore more possibilities so you don't end up "detoxing" for months or years!

  • another thing that helps is bananas because theyre really high in potassium, which has a substantial effect on energy levels.
