Food Processor Advice

germin8germin8 Raw Master

I made this “bean” dip with sunflower seeds and sundried tomatoes. I’ve had a “bean” recipe before and the mixture was well “blended” (although, not with a blender). The “bean” dip I made called for a food processor to do the work since the blender would over-do it, I’m sure. Well, it never ends up looking blended… more like tiny chunks of sunflower seed and sundried tomatoes mixed with everything else (you can’t really see that though). And, I notice this all the time with certain recipes/ingredients… like those with a small amount of liquid. How do I get a more blended “look”? Maybe I do not have enough ingredients in my food processor. ??? The blade spins so fast and the food is so.. ummm, what’s the word… stiff?... because it lacks liquid… that, after some time, there is nothing being processed and I have to push everything back down. If I could get it to blend more in the food processor, I would get what I’m looking for… but, how do I do that? Do I need a new blade? Maybe I can blend a tiny bit in the blender (to get some “liquid”) and add it to the food processor? Oh wait, I think I just answered my question. But I will post this anyway.

  • I have found that using a masticating juicer with the blank plate (I have a Champion) achieves the result you are looking for. I don’t yet have a food processor, but I had a similar problem as what you describe when I tried using my Vitamix to make certain recipes. Bon appetit!

  • germin, this happens with my food processor also, yesterday while making hummus. I’ve usually found if I add a little extra liquid (I just add some water) that things tend to run more smoothly.

I think the blank plate may be a little more than what I want. I still want it to be “thick”, but not like almond butter.

I’m going to try adding more water next time.

I thought that by doubling the recipe, the weight would push it down… but that doesn’t always work.

Thanks, I thought maybe I was doing something wrong or there is some ‘trick’ I’m missing.
