ZINFANDEL - How awesome is that! I just registered for my free year. I am glad I didn't know about something like that while I was studying philosophy because I may not have read all my lessons.

BTW, I see Andre' gave you an informative aswer to your question. He is so nice to help people the way he does and he has already helped me plenty.

Yea, Andre is amazing. I'm very new to the whole idea of fasting. I see you are doing an extended one. After how long do you get a burst of energy because over the 1 day fast I did I just felt horrible.

Thanks for sending me over there!

After the 2nd day I had more energy but still felt yucky at times. By the 4th day I felt great. By the 10th day my skin looked fantastic and everyone I ran into told me how good I looked.

I can't believe I went that many days without food but it was wonderful in many ways. It is just really hard to fast during the holidays. The past two weeks I missed so many events. I decided to postpone it until December 26th.

I think I am going to try to go at least 14 days, transition back, and then fast 1 week after every 3 weeks. A week really isn't hard and I now know I can handle it. This should get both my blood pressure and my weight down. When I have a handle on those issues, I am going to follow the advice he gave you. I have somethings that irritate me and I want to identify them too. Mono eating and taking your pulse - What great advice he has. I read through the entire website and he clearly knows his stuff. I never would have had the courage except I knew he would guide me through it if I needed him.

The past year I researched a great deal about fasting and I am convinced it is the best medicine around for most ailment and healthy housekeeping. (Many good responses for people with IBS too.) It is a natural medical response known instinctively by every member of the animal kingdom except humans. I enjoyed it until all the parties started, which really only happens once a year. It really alters the way you feel about food and gave me a sense of accomplishment and willpower. I did a Master Cleanse last year but it was nothing compared to the fast.

It pretty much blew my mind that groups of people actually survive for more than 5 days without food. AND carry on with their lives! AND go for like 20 days sometimes on only water. Jumpin jehosephat.

Do you think I could do it as a student while going to school? I am such a baby when it comes to food. Which just alerts me all the more than I should probably try one.

(by the way people we're talking about fastingconnection.com)

Philosophersnotes is cool! I signed up for their daily email because I love getting exposure to stuff like that as much as possible. I need it!

We all need it. Most people don't have a clue about thinking logically, understand how belief systems are formed or how they arrive at their own conclusions. I have a minor in philosophy which started as taking electives but when I took a class in logic and realized how absolutely ILLOGICAL I was it really changed the way I think. I wish everyone was forced to take 2 semesters of logic. It would radically change the world.

I didn't have any problem with my fast initially until my closest friend got busy with the holidays and I couldn't socialize with others without being in an eating establishment. Then it started to depress me. I would like to try a lengthier fast and I will see how it goes absent the holidays. The only other thing that was hard was I was amazed at how often I would just stop at the fridge and open the door, despite not feeling hungry. After the 3rd day I had very little hunger and when I did it was mild and after I salivated over pictures of food. I really just need to keep myself occupied and away from food during a fast. I love to go to the bookstore and read. We used to have a craft store here where you could go work on projects and have hot tea. It isn't around anymore and I would love a place to take my beading. That would get me out without having to socialize around food.

As for school, I think it depends on you and the support of your friends would be helpful. Women, especially younger women, aren't as secure with themselves and often sabotage their female friends. It is a sad but true. On the other hand, I didn't really feel tempted for the first week because after day 3 I felt really great and enjoyed not eating. Also, my kitchen has never been so clean for this long. LOL.

I think my situation with food now has more to do with an emotional addiction. I had a bad accident years ago and almost doubled my body weight in 9 months from being shut in, drugged, inactive, and depressed. I am still trying to get off that train. I lost a little weight initially with raw food but it came back. The really great thing about fasting is if I do maintenance fasting I know I can keep it off. I lost 14 pounds in 11 days and most of that time I did nothing. It was too cold here to go for a walk. Since I have returned to regular eating (with app. 6 large chocolate bars during my cycle too) I have only gained back one pound. Andre' fasts 1 to 1.5 days weekly and otherwise eats whatever he wants. After going 11 days without food I don't think it would bother me to go without it for 2 days.

I'm very impressed. I highly doubt I could do 11 days. Am planning on doing 3 sometime at the beginning of next year. I have to give up caffeine though first because detox + caffeine withdrawal is too much for me. I too am considering fasting 1 day a week. It's a goal. Like I said, I am a big baby now. I will be very proud of myself if I can make it. The determining factor is that I don't want my quality of life to be affected every week by being weak and hungry. I don't know if that is a legitimate fear or not. I imagine it would probably be worth it.

It is really remarkable that you have been able to accomplish such a feat, especially after pulling yourself through such a disaster!

You won't be weak (that is a Western medicine myth) and you won't be hungry after day 3. Days 1 - 3 are the hardest, although I had more energy on day2 than normally. Assuming you aren't diabetic or otherwise seriously health compromised, you will be fine. I was concerned too until I did it then I realized the wool had been pulled over my eyes for a lifetime.

One thing that you do have to watch for is because fasting lowers your blood pressure, when you wake up or stand up after sitting or laying down, you can't do it too quickly. You can have what is called orthostatic hypotension, so you need to stand up slowly and/or stretch before you get up or you can experience dizziness for a few seconds. It happened to me a few times in the morning. If it happens to you, you can slowly drop on one knee and it will pass in 2 - 4 seconds. I finally put a sign up next to my bed that said STRETCH and that reminded me to stretch a few second before I got out of bed first. This prevents it from happening.

Fascinating. I can feel my momentum building for this... I definitely can relate to the wool over the eyes thing. I am slightly weirded out because some of the posts on there are reminiscent of some posts that someone with an eating disorder would make. I'm thinking it's possible those people with eating disorders may be on to something (although in a sick and twisted way...). I would definitely enjoy losing a couple pounds, and eating less. I give in to my cravings too often and eat too much. Hopefully next semester I will able to stay more balanced and implement this more into my lifestyle. I've always taken things to extremes :) Andre on the other hand looks pretty good... *wink wink* heheh just kidding.
