So I was doing some more research on natural sources of iodine, since I have been having good success with only putting spirulina in my smoothies to regulate my hypothyroid. I came across a few articles talking about produce that is grown in iodine rich soil is a good natural source of iodine. Well, we have a garden that we have been growing alot of produce out of this past month or so (in fact, I think I didn’t plant enough!). So, I am thinking of adding kelp meal to my garden soil to increase the iodine levels. Does anyone have any experience with this? If so, I would love to hear what you put on your garden to boost soil “nutrition”. I have raised garden beds that I filled with organic soil, so I didn’t have to worry about the soil content in the existing soil. (We just moved to this house this year, so not sure of the soil’s “history).
I think that sounds like a great idea. I’m also dealing with symptoms of undiagnosed hypothyroidism and take a seaweed supplement with fucoidin (a gyconutrient) and iodine. I’m planning a garden when we get moved soon (if it isn’t too late) and I researched seaweed fertilizers. Since the raw diet population doesn’t eat iodized salt or seafood, it make sense to supplement ourselves and our gardens with iodine. Allison
