Hashimoto's Autoimmune Thyroiditis (Autoimmune thyroid Disease).....Need some input
My thyroid started getting sore two months ago, so my Mom took me to the doctors two weeks ago to get it check out. The doctor noticed that my left thyroid was inflamed, and that's the side that has been hurting. So the doctor to us to go get a blood test and ultra sound to check it out, and make sure it was nothing bad. I did that, and she said the test results came back fine, but they did notice that the left side of my thyroid WAS inflamed. The doctor told me to go to a specialist doctor on thyroid things, so I did.
Let me mind you that I'm almost 15. The specialist doctor told me that I have Hashimoto's Autoimmune Thyroiditis (Autoimmune thyroid Disease), it's where good antibody's get confused and attack your thyroid. I have been raw for two months now, and I really, really, REALLY don't want to be on a hormone replacement pill. I read all the side affects, and it is NOT something I want to do. He gave us 4 months to see if we can try to cure it, and if not, they want me to be on that pill. From what my parents read, you possibly can't cure Hashimoto's Autoimmune Thyroiditis :-(. There has been proof that some people caught with this at an early stage, took selenium, and it went away! So we got some the other day.
Our doctor (not the specialist) told us that my test results were fine, so we called her and told her about what the specialist said. So our doctor said she would call the specialist and talk to him about the whole matter. We will probably hear from her tomorrow.
I was just wondering if anyone has any input on this. Is there anything that might help me? Let me know, it would help a lot.
I have had every symptom to the T of hypothyriod but my blood work comes back fine everytime and no doctor or specialist can figure out what is wrong with me. I was curious as to how your doctor determined you had Hashimoto's if your blood work came back normal? I really believe I might have it but my doctor said if its not in the blood work there is simply NO POSSIBLE way that the problem is my thyriod. I have been dealing with this for 4 years and Im desperate :(
I'm also really curious about natural treatment for Hashimoto's. Staying away from goitrogenic foods (like kale, cabbage, broccoli, even strawberries) can help, but I wonder if there's a more proactive treatment. I see people recommending seaweed, but if I have too much seaweed extract I can feel my thyroid swell. Any advice from someone who's been through this?
Thanks so much for the selenium idea--I'll need to have some more of the chocolate cake I made (http://goneraw.com/node/2783) for the selenium-rich brazil nuts!
