Healing Stitches and ect. . .

Long story short. . .

Saturday night at a friends birthday party I was petting the downstairs neighbors dog. It was friendly and licking my hand so as i went to crouch down to play it more it jumped up and bit my lip. (rather common behavior for pit bulls)

I went to the emergency room and needed five stitches to close the outside of the wound, and the inside was left to heal itself.

My stitches will be removed Thursday night.

My only instructions were to rinse my mouth with hydrogen peroxide when I wake, after eating, and before bed. to apply an antibiotic ointment every once and a while and to take an antibiotic pill twice daily with food for three days . . .

I'm wondering if anyone has some good holistic advice to help my healing?

I have heard that vitamin e will help,. After having some surgery, my dr. told me that the best thing is to just put lotion (i.e. keep it moisturized) and to do scar massage to keep the blood flowing, Scar massage, the way it was described to me, was just to lightly touch the area with your fingertips in a circular motion. Good luck!

You would also benefit from increasing your intake of vitamin C and zinc, both very important immune nutrients (to fight pathogen and prevent infection - vitamin E is also immune supportive). Not only immune supporting, vitamin C and zinc also participate in tissue repair and regeneration, as well as collagen production. If you're opposed to peroxide, you could try using colloidal silver (a powerful anti-bacterial, anti microbial, etc) instead. I would also suggest some probiotics or increasing fermented foods after your bout with antibiotics.

    Best of luck healing!

If you've already started the antibiotics you should finish them, but I personally try to only take them after I feel like I actually have an infection, not as a precaution.

When I've had to take antibiotics I double my probiotics. After the course of antibiotics I take a product called GI Encap by Thorne that reestablishes the mucoid lining of the intestines (fyi, this is also a great product for those with leaky gut syndrome) and I also take Trifal which is an Ayurvedic herb combo that inhibits yeast/candida growth. I do those for a month after antibiotics.

Oregano oil is a great immune booster too.
