Hello from London, UK!

Hi there,

I live in London, UK, but am Italian (from a small town not far from Venice).

I decided to go vegan and raw 2 months ago, after some minor health scare. I was vegetarian for about 20 years before that.

As I never liked to cook, I find the most difficult thing for me is to get used to planning my meals and preparing them. But the benefits I'm already reaping from being vegan and raw are already apparent, so I'm sticking with it.

Also, I find it a bit daunting to face cutting remarks from people, especially at social occasions. But luckily my family and closest friends support my choices, so it's easier. I've been reading this website for the last couple of months and I must say a BIG THANK YOU, not only for the inspiration you've been providing me, but also because knowing there are a lot of people who have made similar choices and have been through the same difficulties and have survived is very comforting and gives me strength when the going gets tough.

So, thank you and keep going!!

    Hi There,

I live in between Liverpool and Manchester. You are lucky because there is a wonderful growing raw scene here in the UK with lovely people. The good thing about the UK is that we are small so you can get to know nearly all the rawies in not too much time by hanging out on the forums, and the blogs and going to potlucks!

Have you been to Saf? My and Chris went there and ate a meal for four for just the two of us...it is lovely and well worth a go. Also the Inspiral Lounge in Cambden does raw food, talks, I think Kate Wood (www.rawliving.eu) has a monthly talk there.

I think thew best thing to do to set yourself up is to start a raw potluck. We did and it was the most amazing thing we ever did. We met so many people who were totally on our wavelength, but from all different lifestyles. It helps so much to have proper face to face contact with other rawies.

We can all be a raw success of we stick together ;) And as you get more used to it, other people will stop giving you weird looks. It is true that the more at home and confident you are with it, the more the world reacts in a positive way, that just comes naturally with time.

  • Hi Zoe,

Great to meet you! Yeah, I went to Saf a couple of months ago and was blown off my feet!! Such wonderful foods there!! Pity I can't dine there every day... *sigh*

I haven't tried the Inspiral Lounge but thanks for the advice, I'll give it a go soon.

I've been reading about pot lucks but I don't feel confident enough with my "cooking" to go to one yet, let alone start one! However, it's a great idea and I will certainly keep it in mind for the future.

Going raw is such a huge lifestyle change, I'm still learning a lot and struggling a bit occasionally. But it's oh so worth it, I'm sticking with it!! Plus it's an exciting new experience, which I love!!

Pity you live so far away from me, but hey, maybe one day we'll meet!

    All the best!

    Ciao!
