Help!! I am experiencing the opposite physical affects eating raw:(

Hey Everyone! I’m a huge advocate of alternative medicine and of course organic food. My diet has changed immensely in the past several years- I went from eating the typical SAD diet to an anti-candida diet and transitioning to all organic food. I’ve been eating almost exclusively vegetarian with the occassional org meat here and there and the unfortunate ice cream binges I got for the past two years. My health history is complex to say the least- I had evidently developed a candida/leaky gut, multiple food allergies, adrenal fatigue, and massive unintentional weight loss to say the least. So, when a friend first introduced to me to the concept of eating all raw and all its benefits it definitely intrigued me but I had my reservations and questions. Especially as my reason to go raw would hardly be to lose weight as I am am already 114 lbs more or less. Up until this point I had been juicing fresh organic vegetables 1+ a day on a daily basis, eating gluten- free grains, and little to no prepackaged or processed foods. Oddly enough- my skin this last year- took a drastic turn- breaking out more and more especially around the chin, jaw, and a couple on the cheeks. I had resolved together with practioners the leaky gut and put back on at least some of the weight I lost and was able to maintain it. Yet digestive problems – bloating, gas, oral thrush, constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, brittle nails, etc still plagued me. A new raw food friend- encouraged me to undergo a series of colonics- that he was sure would clear my skin up and encouraged me to transition to more and more raw food. I began doing the colonics- and sure enough- stuff was eradicated from inside- my skin got worse and I began to doubt, I lost a couple pounds, and I was not too energetic. Experiencing continued insomnia. I was constipated or having repeated diarrhea b/t sessions too. I was also getting nausea/headaches frequently and only a little food fills me up. I’m still pushing through and giving the benefit of the doubt at times as cooked food doesnt even sound good to me anymore. I found out- I’ve lost about 6 pounds recently since going raw and my family and doctors keep saying – I’m not getting enough calories and will continue to lose weight if I dont change anything. My bowel movements are still minimal and too soft and unformed to come out on their own most of the time and/or undigested food present. I recently took the step of taking out the foods against my blood type that my colon hydrotherapist thought was further inducing symptoms too and increasing my water intake, continuing taking digestive enzymes, now msm powder, probiotics, green food, etc. I would appreciate anyone’s thoughts and suggestions. Best Regards.

First off, I am sorry for your struggles! I can only say what I would do…..first off I think you have too many things “going” at one time. I would choose just one “modality” and stick with it for 3-6 months to give it time to run it’s course, especially through the detox process. As colonics are not natural, for me, I would stop the colonics, supplements, etc. and just do raw foods for that 3-6 month time frame. If you don’t notice any changes, than try adding back one of the other modalities. Again, going from most natural to least natural, the next thing would be supplements. Continue the process, etc. Also, you may want to try getting doing some reiki sessions to help gain balance. This can be done anytime throughout the process (during raw foods, supplements, etc.). If you were my client, that would be what I would suggest to you, anyway. Hope this helps!

I agree with spiritedmama, just try to be 100% raw and let your body adjust and heal itself. Keep it simple and eat whatever you want as long as it is raw. Make sure what you eat really is raw, and I feel that your problems will subside in time.

I think it helps to read up on it, so you know the reasons why raw food will heal you. Mental confusion and doubts don’t help the process, if you’re mentally committed it really helps. Try a book like ‘Nature’s First Law’ by Dini, Arlin and Wolfe, or ‘Detox Your World’ By Shazzie, or anything by Anne Wigmore.

Your body want to heal itself, let it.

I’d love to help you orgfoodaddict. I would like to know much more detail about your intake and lifestyle. Please email me if you would like my help. My contact information is on my website. I must say though, you have already received some great advice from spiritedmama and Zoe.

I’m really sorry to hear that you are going through this. But just to let you know, you are not the only one :) People starting off raw are going to go through some detoxing discomforts. I know I did, and let me tell you probably one of the most difficult times in my life, both physically and mentally. I can however suggest something for the constipation that are having. Triphala is a very affective herbal supplement which strengthens the muscles of the digestion system. This should help you move the waste along. Another important thing is to drink more water Also eat some more foods that have good quality oil in them. A nice example would be avocados, because they much easier to digest than nuts and the oil in them acts a good lubrication for the intestines. I wish you the best of luck and always stay strong. You can over come this!

I’ve been reading the 80/10/10 diet by Dr Doug Graham. There are many people with the same symptoms as you that swear by his regimen (he has many case studies in the book). It seems very encouraging, as I too haven’t been thriving on my raw foods. Maybe you should think about getting your hands on a copy- I had to order mine online. Basically it’s a diet high in fruit, with some greens, and minimal fats (avocados, olives, nuts and seeds).

In Roe Gallo’s book “Perfect Body”,she had a client with many symptoms as you have and she told her to go on a water fast until everything(all the toxins) were gone.Of course it has to be extremly supervised.

  • you do not need to be taking digestive emzymes espescially if you you eat raw food. everything your body needs to digest food it has, also raw food will break itself down so stop 1 wasting your money on a trumped up product that you dont need.another thing getting frequent colonics is probly not the best idea in the world either. this seems to me that you have good intentions however i think that if you got rid of all these “promises in a bottle” youd find that your body will adjust and all these horrible symptoms will go away.

  • Thank you all soo much for your feedback and counsel! I appreciate everyone’s sensitivity to my struggles and questions. SpiritedMama and Zoe- I know you both touched on a good point with me- trying to do too many things at the same time admist mental confusion. That seems to be a constant pattern with me- and right now, aside of trying to go all out raw- I am in the midst of a lot of transition and uncertainty in all aspects of my life. I think much of the mental confusion comes from the varying views and directions when going raw- the more I read up on food preparation, lifestyle, what supplements to take or not to take, what raw food is not actually raw- the more confused, stressed and jumbled up I get. So, I cancelled my upcoming colonic session yesterday, I am taking a deep breath, and going to eat as much as possible raw. My failed attempts at sprouting the gluten free grains and legumes without them going rancid forced me to cook them but I would still like to change that and be able to achieve them raw. Lastly, I know I should have mentioned this earlier- I am bound to take a small amount of medication (25 milligrams) for my health condition- and I dont doubt- that some of my symptoms stem in part from that- but much of these I had been dealing with up to this point even when I was finally on no meds. With that said- is my attempt to eat all raw going to be inhibited by this? Lastly, I just was curious if there is any contradiction (ie. age, lifestyle, etc) for one to go all raw at any one time.

    blessing on you all!

There are not real contra-indications to going raw at any one time. Now is a great time to go raw! As far as the medication, by all means continue to take it if it is needed! I commend you for recognizing patterns in your life that may not be serving you well, such as doing too many things at once. Once we can learn these types of patterns that hold us back, then recognize how to change them, the sky is the limit! Also, don’t get too bogged down in the “details” and various “styles” of raw. For now, just do your best. As your body gets rid of its toxins (emotional, physical, etc.), you will naturally gravitate to what is right for you and your body.

  • hi since i am a new i wanna know what is the most useful or most good thing of raw? will it keep me young? or have very good health or??? My main wish is to have an effect to my skin, i mean to stop acne. Could u share ur experience or knowledge about how it affect to skin etc…

  • judy, I eat the 811 diet and I used to get acne several times a year (even when on the high fat raw diet). Now it rarely if ever comes and when I do get it it goes in a couple of days.

  • Hey Guys- well I’m hanging in there. I still am losing weight to my dismay and experiencing so symptoms but. I was curious- has any experienced any malasorption? Is floating, thin stools expected when going raw or is this a sign something is unbalanced? Also, if one experiences gas but no offensive odor what does that indicate?

  • I got down to 66 lbs with my bowel issues. I was in the hospital for a little over a month. My advice is Avocado and soaked almonds. Eat one food at a time. Kelp is great over everything. Read Sick and Tired by Robert O Young. I found that Cleanse More by renew life helped alot. I took it for a while now. I have very few bowel symtoms, am at a good weight and on no medication or supplements

  • You might want to investigate Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). The address is www.emofree.com. There may be emotional blocks to your healing! Energy psychology offers some very powerful healing and you can get started with EFT for absolutely no money. You may find that you want to consult with EFT practitioners to help you along, but you don’t have to. I did EFT for a while and then began with Quantum Techniques (QT). I now work with a QT therapist for about 20 minutes every 2-3 weeks on the phone.

Through QT, I found out that I had many food toxins – raw and organic or not!!! These foods, which for me included nightshades, berries, melons, wheat, dairy, soy and vinegar, are challenging for me. I knew that I couldn’t eat some of these things, such a melons, as they made my throat itch, or peppers (nightshades), as they gave me anything from indigestion to diarrhea, depending on the variety. Now I avoid them completely and feel MUCH BETTER!!!!!! I learned of these issues via voice testing (a form of muscle testing), which some people swear by and others regard as complete crap. After about 5 months, I got berries and raw tomatoes back as they are no longer toxins for me. I don’t claim to understand this completely. I only claim to have an open mind to alternative healing since Western medicine, a SAD diet and modern living made me sick in the first place.

Some of your issues (especially the acne) still sound like rampant Candida to me, but I’m no expert. I beat my Candida overgrowth in about 4 months using a combo of diet and Triguard (grapefruit seed extract, tea tree oil and colloidal gold), and then ProSilver 240 (ionic silver). No, these products are not completely natural, but when you think about it, neither is a Candida infection! You can avoid fruit and fermented foods for months and months, or you can hasten the process. I chose hastening the process. It was the right decision for me. I couldn’t afford to lose any more weight and my foods choices were depressingly narrow.

Visualize yourself as perfectly healthy! Have no doubts that you are moving toward realizing that reality!!!
