Help!: old school dehydrator?

hello all! I just acquired my mom’s dehydrator (it’s brown, round and has 5 trays)... and it doesn’t have any temperature controls. how do i know that it’s not going past 118 degrees? (unfortunately, i don’t have the instruction book and and it doesn’t say what brand of dehydrator it is.) Any help would be appreciated… thanks! : )

hey thats like mine!! or should i say my old one, i found that using the tray closest to the heat element was too hot but stacking an empty tray or two between the heat element and your creations works fine, i used a cooking thermometor to gage it. yours may be different though. it worked ok on drying nuts and seeds and some of my bread and cracker creations although those take days!!! so i ordered a new one. BEWARe: my heating element got so hot that it cracked the crumb catcher and melted the part that regulates how much heat it allow up through the trays, i had it shut down to see if i could regulate the temp better that way…i didnt have food on it at the time or i would have thrown it al out due to fumes!!!! it may be worth while to invest in something more fire safe. unless you are home alot. good luck its a workable starter one, who knows, you may do fine with it!
