Hi!

Ok… lets see… I’ve decided to go raw simply because I have some health issues that can’t be dealt with any other way. I’ve had migraines ever since puberty, and pretty much suffered through them for the last 20 years. I grew up eating junk… I lived on spam, mac n cheese, hot dogs… Jolt cola… In 2007 I went on a vegetarian style diet plan (mostly cooked)... I was walking 3-4 mi a day, and feeling amazing. I didn’t lose a lot of weight but I did get into great shape. Suddenly I realized that my back problem and the migraines were gone! When winter hit, and I got lazy… can’t walk much in the snow, and by the time the holidays hit I was eating BAD things. A treat to me was a lb of raw cookie dough (hey does that count as raw, ha ha j/k). Veggies disappeared off the menu. As a result, the head aches came back, the back problem wasn’t really much of a problem, but I started having problems in my ligaments and joints. Ugh! So this year I went to see several Dr’s to try to find something to take for the migraines… and I was told that because of my health history and my family health history that prescribing me anything was probably risky, and I could but he wasn’t advising it. Hmm… no headaches and possibly die from a clot or stroke… I think I’ll take the headaches.

After a lot of research on the net, I came back to thegardendiet which I had found YEARS ago (back when I was actually considering raw for other reasons)... and went, hey I remember that!! So… here I am. Hoping to heal myself.

As of today (day 3), I feel so much better. I can tell that I’m detoxing… It’s been an emotional couple of days for me, but today I didn’t feel like I was going to faint or fall over (which some people have told me that “that diet isn’t healthy”, “you can’t live on that forever”... what ever happened to “eat your veggies?”)... and I don’t feel deprived!

This week end is going to be a test for me of sorts… we are going on a mini vacation, and I’ve packed up a lot of stuff, and made some yummy “make shift” things to keep me out of the Doritos and Oreos… but it’s the restaurants… oh man!! So I might have to not be 100% this week end… I told myself it’s the journey, it’s the journey, no one is going to give me a prize if I do or don’t eat 100%!

    I was vegetarian for nine years and probably ate only one vegetable a day! So much for healthy eating. Mexican food galore, filled with cheese and carbs. I agree with pianissima – congratulations on connecting health with diet. Celebrate all your successes and enjoy the journey! I am eating healthier now than I ever have in my middle aged life, feeling better, experiencing complete loss of health problems in some areas and lessening of health problems in others .. and the bottom line is, I’m not 100%, but pretty darn close. I feel great and I know now that diet is the answer so when I don’t eat raw I know that my body will respond accordingly. Sometimes you just gotta have a taste of some old favorites.
