I have to admit it

I can’t stand coconut. There, my dirty secret is out. Can anyone tell me if it is just that I am picking out not so good ones or is it my taste buds changing, again? I loved it before going raw. I ate tons of them the first few months. But I am finding the same thing that happened with avocados. I find that my stomach turns at the thought of them. I bought one and let it go bad because I couldn’t bring myself to eat it. Has anyone else experienced this? Things that I ate all the time before going raw just don’t taste good, sound good, look good to me. And the frustrating thing is that they are staples in a raw food diet.

are you talking about the young ones?

  • I’m the same way. I have no problem with the coconut water, or the coconut oil, or whatever. But if I can taste the coconut meat itself, particularly if it’s shredded, I’m just not interested. I think it’s the texture, but I’m not sure. I don’t get it either.

That’s actually why I was so surprised that I liked the Lemon Cookies – they have coconut but I can’t really taste it I guess, so I love ‘em.

I don’t like green peppers either!

I don’t like any, young or mature. Actually, I can do some mature but not much. I have tried the water out of one young coconut and it tasted like metal. I might try again with a another young one and see if I just had a bad one. I don’t mind dried coconut and I actually thought last night about drying my own and seeing if I like that. Another thing that I can’t do until our house is done. I am glad to see that I am not the only one. Sometimes I think that I am messing something up simply because all other raw foodies are raving about a particular food or recipe and my body says, “No Way!”.

Tell me some raw foods that you like. I will try to devise some recipes according to the foods you like.

Hey, that’s really nice of you.

Apples, I LOVE apples, grapes, oranges, grapefruit, banana’s (especially in smoothies or as ice cream), any melon, mangoes, actually almost all fruit are a go. And most veggies though I am obviously eating way more fruit right now. I will have a garden in the summer and add in more veggies when I can grow them. I am not typically a picky eater which is why the whole cocount/avocado thing has really thrown me for a loop.

  • Avos and coconut’s are both really rich in fat. Perhaps you are getting to much fat in your diet so your buds have chnged to regulate the intake. Nuts and seeds have fat but they have all been dehydrated and it is harder for the body to recognize them as fat when they are in your mouth. Do still enjoy nuts? Do you eat alot of nuts and seeds?

I love nuts but I really limit them simply because I was putting on weight. And I prefer the way my body feels when it is saturated with water from eating fruit as opposed to water from drinking it, kwim? Too many nuts and I am needing too much water. The high fat content is an interesting thought though.

I’m used to coconut and its water since a child. We have a coconut tree at home,Brazil, and have coconut evry day. Now I live here,NY,and I miss it a lot. Avocados,we eat them with honey,it’s a desert there, and is delicious. Try it,just crush the avocado with honey. Hope you like it. I also have to stop eating nuts and sweets because the weight.

Avos as a dessert?! Interesting thought. I will have to try that. Thanks!

I really liked coconuts before I went raw, avocados too. It has just been since my taste buds changed that I have struggled with them. That is what I find so strange.

My husband that don’t like coconut water has a much better tolerance with it if it is cold, freezen cold. I heard that if you make coconut water ,agave and cocoa powder is an amzing chocolate smoothy. I’m going to try this one time.

I forgot to say that maybe your body doesn’t need, for now, the oil and fat that the coconut and avocado have . Maybe it is just a time out,and later, maybe, you will crave them. Our body knows evrything.
