Here's another sample shopping list. this feeds 1 raw foodie for 1 week. It's a lot of avocados - that week I ate lots of avocados and fruit, other weeks nuts and veggies, any combination i want. Always lots of greens. I spend about $150-190 per week, depending on if i eat conventional or organic produce, and depending on how many staples I buy that week.

    FRUIT

    # fresh blueberries

    # tomatoes 5

    # cucumbers 10

    # avocados 18

    # pears 15

    # pomegranate 2

    # honeydew melon 2

    # cantaloupe 2

    # bananas 4 bunches (green and ripe)

    # grapes 2 lbs

    # button mushrooms 1 container

    # portobella mushrooms (4)

    ROOTS

    # jicama (8)

    CITRUS

    # lemons 1 bag

    # oranges 2 bags

    Dates?

    GREENS

    # mixed salad greens 4 lbs organic

    # red and green leaf lettuce organic 6 heads

    # swiss chard 3

    # parsley 1 bunch

    # green onions 2 bunches

    # cilantro 1 bunch

    # romaine hearts 3 bunches

    # celery 1 head

    # boston and finger lakes fresh lettuce: several

    FROZEN

    # cheap frozen strawberries (for smoothies)

    BULK

    # cashews 1 lb

    # almonds 1 lb

I normally keep the following ingredients around my house so i don't need to buy them each week:

raw olive oil (unfiltered, cold pressed)

    agave

    coconut oil and butter

sesame seeds (to make tahini dressings)

    golden flax

    buckwheat (crackers, pizzas)

spices (all kinds, especially curry, tumeric, chili powder, nutritional yeast)

    cacao

  • wow pretty great are beans allowed i mean beans can be raw right. and how about oats bobs red mill steel cut oats is that ok and Ezekiel sprouted 100% whole grain bread .what kind of milks can i buy that are already made.

Just stay in the produce section and frozen fruit area and grab things that catch your eye. Whole foods are better (not blended). I do much better on low fat and no seasonings. You'll do great.

virgenmarie, canned beans are not raw but you can buy dried and make your own sprouts. i'm pretty sure the oats and bread are not raw either. i usually make my own nut milks because no where around me sells raw ones.

the staples in my house are bananas!!!, avocados, grapes, spinach, mangoes, and apples. i don't eat a lot of other foods because i'm trying to stay close to the 811 diet. if you haven't read it, it's an excellent book and it will guide you with what foods your body can digest.

i definitely agree with zinfandel about staying in the produce section. fruit is the best food for you!

  • I just signed up with the Raw Divas' 90-day detox. It's free for the basic version, and I just downloaded a month-long meal planner for March. You might find it useful if you're starting out: www.therawdivas.com. The meal planner has shopping lists, recipes, and a daily menu. Good luck!

  • HI GUYS THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT I BEEN 2 DAYS BEING RAW AND I LOVE IT RIGHT NOW I FEEL SO MUCH ENERGY AND IM JUST HAPPY BUT THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE IS THE GAS AND BEING IN THE BATH ROOM NONE STOP IS THAT NORMAL PLEASE TELL ME IT IS :( WELL AND ONE MORE THING WHEN U FIRST START BEING RAW DO U HAVE TO COUNT CALORIES BECAUSE I HAVE JUST BEEN EATING UNTIL IM FULL I DONT REALLY WANT MY SELF TO GET HUNGRY AND GO BINGE ON NORMAL FOOD AND RIGHT NOW IM JUST ON NUTS AND FRUITS AND OLIVE OIL AND AVOCADOS. HELP :)

  • Hi virjenmarie,

Wow, you're doing great!! IMHO, it's fine to eat plenty of nuts/olive oil/avocado, especially as you transition, and really ongoing, unless you are gaining weight and don't want that. At first, I think the first prioirty should be staying raw, if at all possible, and those foods will help you to do that and feel satisfied. Don't beat yourself up if you should happen to fall off the wagon, but that said, if you can stay raw and keep enjoying it on the foods you mentioned you are doing a super thing for your body. Good luck to you!!
