First of all, I wanted to say thank you for all your advice and support, you’ve helped me ease my worries a lot! I have been practically all raw (I still take some supplements and consider some nuts and spices questionable) for the last week or so after being kind of half and half for a short while (just stopped wanting cooked, didn’t see the point in slowing down). I’m already seeing a massive change, especially in personality. I have a lot more energy despite not being quite strong enough to keep up with it! Does that make sense? I have been extremely happy and content with my life and been able to ease my anxiety with no problems after I used to have constant panic attacks and stress induced tantrums. Also, and this is the part that amazed me the most: my relationship with my husband has suddenly reverted about 3 years. I’ve been very estranged and cold in recent time and haven’t been able to give or take any affection, and suddenly I’m filled with this unbelievable surge of love for myself and for him. I don’t know if it’s normal to have such a turn around suddenly but I sure hope it lasts.

Another thing I noticed and was wondering if this happens to anyone else: I lost the taste to many foods that used to be staples for me. I can’t stand the taste of sprouted grains (in particular wheat) and beans at all any more, it makes me nauseated and upsets my stomach for hours. Also, I find that I can’t eat greens quite often, can’t stand the sight of broccoli which used to be a favorite of mine, and have an immense craving for fruit all the time. What worries me most about this is that if most of what I crave is fats (avocados especially) and fruit, it may just be craving, not true need. I’m concerned with eating too much fat and also becoming addicted to sugar. Should I be concerned with this or just enjoy it?

Thank you again for all your help, this has been a beautiful change and I wish you all the best.

Morning_Theft, I am so happy for you that you are finding some peace and love in your life again! That is a wonderful, often under-talked about benefit to raw foods. As far as the fruit and fat thing…when I was about 1-2 weeks 100% raw, I went for a period where all I wanted was fruit mono-meals. I would eat just oranges all day, or just melon, and then I went through a time when I just wanted avos and nuts. Now, I am craving a more balanced diet. I always thought it was my body’s way of resetting itself. It didn’t last long, maybe 2-3 weeks, but I worried a little myself. But, I have found that if you trust your body, it will never stear you wrong (that is once you have been raw and you start having intuitive cravings)

  • Morning theft,

Have you considered celiac disease? It’s just that you’ve had such a strong positive reaction to excluding grains and you identify wheat as being particularly troublesome and nauseating. Anyway, that’s great you’re feeling so good.

  • Hi Morning T, That is great to hear. Try eating some mellon and then eating the seeds. If you put some spices(&olive oil) on them, dry them, grind them, and then sprinkle over some leafy greens – that would be good. You could grind them and add them to a smoothy or roll a banana in the mellon powder with a little cinnamon. I agree with Spiritedmama that you should go with it but try to continue to eat some greens and utilize natures vitamin pill- the mellon seed if possible!

    have fun!

The love factor with raw blew me away. When we were transitioning, me and my husband would argue whenever we ate cooked food, and be totally loved up when we stayed on the raw. It was so obvious and clear, and amazing. How many marriages could be saved if the couple went raw???!!!

spiritedmama, I’m glad I’m not alone on this! I’ll just wait and see if my body adjust on its own… And enjoy the yummy fruit and avocados for now heh :c) Avo Cado, I actually don’t think I have that… My naturopath is celiac and she said there’s no way I have the same problem… My aversion is strange… I just don’t want anything that isn’t juicy and watery and sweet for some reason. writeeternity- What is the benefit of eating mellon seeds? It sounds a bit odd but… I’m listening :c) And yes I have been eating greens and lettuce still, I just usually add them to my smoothie because I don’t enjoy the taste as much as I used to. Zoe, I’m glad to hear you’ve experienced the same thing! It is pretty amazing, how easy it is suddenly to look at things with proper perspective. omshanti… My husband naturally tries everything I do, and won’t continue if he doesn’t like it. He cut back on sugar A LOT after I just pointed out how dangerous it is and how crazy he’s being when he eats a lot of it. As for meat, I’m not sure what it was- “fast food nation” or my breaking every factor of meat eating to him- immediate physical discomfort, build up of toxins, the suffering of the animals etc, he just gave it up. I asked him now, what made him cut back on meat as much as he has (he only has it once a month at the most, if a special occasion arrises) and he said “thinking about it”. It was HIS choice, not mine, it wasn’t manipulating, I just tell him the truth. I go slowly with him, mostly trying to get him to eat vegan before anything else, which is pretty easy. He absolutely loves fruit and if I make him any kind of raw treat (like that wonderful cinnamon roll recipe that’s on here) he won’t complain.

Whoa, that was everyone :c) thank you everyone for your responses!

  • I have found that most peoples tastes change when they go raw. I never liked avacados ( even for months being raw I couldnt stand them ), now I dream about them. I was actually at my computer at work daydreaming about opening up the perfect avacado and spreading it on flax crakers. I also went through about 2 months that I didn’t want to taste, see or smell a banana, now I love them again. Anyway, your not alone on this subject.

My story is the opposite. My bf was the one who was raw and I was resistent to it. I was interested but I was a cooked vegan and it took me a while to see the light. He is always pushing me to drink wheatgrass and green smoothies and I just want chips and dips and anything bready. :)

My tastes have changed too. I couldn’t handle anything spicey before raw. My eyes would tear at just one little drop of jalpeno in my food. Now, I make jalpeno juice and add it to my raw mexican dishes. I like more onions in my dishes and use spices I hated before. I never ate coconut before going raw or pineapple which is my favorite fruit now! I have tried all sorts of exotic fruits I would have never tried before – there is nothing better than a ripe starfruit right off the tree! I still don’t like durians but maybe that will change one day! :)

  • Hi Mornin T Here is a little info on mellon. I haven’t found a great source of info yet but this will give you an idea.

All Nutritional Values of Cantaloupe are in its seeds and rinds too

Cantaloupe is low in calories, contains no fat or cholesterol and is an excellent source of Vitamins A and C, as well as other valuable minerals. Per pound, this fruit has 15,000 I.U. of vitamin A and three times the vitamin C content of apples. It also contains myoinositol, a lipid that helps with anxiety, insomnia and in battling hardening of the arteries. Cantaloupes contain the greatest amount of digestive enzymes. Melons are recommended by the American Cancer Society as powerful agents in the fight against intestinal cancer and the all-too-common skin cancer, melanoma. One average-sized cantaloupe contains approximately 100 calories, yet is dense in nutrients. This makes melons a perfect juice for weight loss. Melons should be purchased firm, sweet-smelling with a soft navel. During the summer, cantaloupes are cheap. To check for ripeness press firmly against the fruit with your thumb. They should give a little but not be soft.

Melons can look decrepit, but still produce excellent juice. A major part of the cantaloupe
