Insomnia, Moody

Hi.

I can’t sleep. I’ve been raw now for two weeks and two days. I’m also in a sort of terrible mood - weepy and rage-y maybe from not sleeping, maybe just generally.

I’m about halfway through my moontime and usually I’m good and drugged up by now. I’ll take ibupofren ( lots ) for the pain, excedrin, water pills, a couple of big cups of red wine, chocolate – this time, nothing. I had read about raw being good for clearing the liver and I didn’t want to muck it up, even if I was feeling bad. The weird thing about that is: it actually helped, I think. The symptoms weren’t nearly as bad as I expected; in fact it was about half as heavy as it usually is and I wasn’t nearly as crampy. Whaddya know, cutting caffeine really does work!

One thing I really miss though is sleep drugs. I have a whole drawerful. I have been very tempted to take some of those and also something for my rotten mood – which would be in this case a big glass of cabernet. I’m a little spacey too.

Any more healthful suggestions?

Thanks,

R

Rawcuss – I wish I had some suggestions, but I don’t :( I just know exactly how you feel. I haven’t had insomnia in years, but for the last week (after being 100% raw for 5 weeks), I’ve been unable to sleep. I have a feeling it’s due to external factors for me, which should be changing Thursday night. I’ve heard that doing yoga or meditation in the evening can help you sleep. Also, I find blogging can help me because it gets all my thoughts out of my head. Hugs Hopefully we can both get some Zzzzz soon!

  • :). Aw, thanks H.

:). Well, on the positive side, my skin's a whole lot better on no sleep now than it was with eight hours before...

it seems as though some people get a peak of detox at 2 weeks of raw. have you tried cacao for your moods? i like it for that. some kombucha may relax you and help you sleep. what is your exercise like? can you use that to help you sleep? long walk at night?

  • :). Thanks bitt.

Oh, I’d love some chocolate. Thing is, I’m trying to stay away from all caffeine. I had an episode with some cacao nibs a week or so ago and I was up allll night :). I was thinking something herbal that doesn’t tax the liver. But I suppose I’ll break down and choc eventually…

Adding freshly ground milk thistle seeds to your smoothies can help detox and cleanse your liver. They’re available from www.MountainRoseHerbs.com (along with amazing, organic teas!). In fact, sometimes I just grind a tablespoon, add it to water, and chug it down.

Also, yes, detox can bring out some crazy emotions :) Just ride it out, take deep breaths, listen to upbeat (or relaxing) music, and stay active in forums like this :) We’re all here to help!

    Cheers,

  • :) hey thanks Kristen!

Good idea about the milk thistle! It didn’t occur to me to do liver clearing herbs because I’m trying to stay away from supplements. I was taking a ton before and none of them seemed to be helping much so I figured I’d chuck them for a while too. Good to know also about detox/moodiness. I’ll ride it out :)
