Is it okay to refridgerate raw juice, green smoothies, etc overnight?
I live on a stomach tube and really have to strain my smoothies, juice, and blenderized meals well so that they don't block up my tube. Which means it's just a bit more time intensive for me than regular folk. :) When I get up in the morning (6:30 am), I'm very hungry and want to eat RIGHT away, also I don't eant to wake everyone else up with the blender noise, and finally I like to get my cardio done almost immediately upon waking, so it would be really nice to have a whole smoothie already in the fridge, prepared the night before and ready to go. However, I'm worried about oxidization and enzyme loss. Is it bad to refridgerate raw juices/smoothies overnight? What about for a few hours, if say I wanted to make most of the day's food all at once in the morning after my workout and then just take portions out of the fridge as needed throughout the day?
From what I have heard, you can refrigerate raw juices overnight in a air-tight container (dark). Add 1 teaspoon RAW honey in the juice which will allow the enzymes to stay aliv. Good luck. The honey must be RAW.
Thanks for the tip. I'm a non-honey vegan; is there anything else I can add to keep the enzymes alive?
Lemon juice, perhaps. It has anti-bacterial properties, anyway.
