LIPS

So this is kinda weird and may be coincidental… but I figured it’s worth a shot to ask. I have had REALLY chapped lips for the past 4-5 days that just won’t go away, and it’s like nothing I’ve ever experienced. They sting really bad, and it’s almost like a scab on the outer line of my top lip. The thing is, I recently upped my fruit intake significantly. Particularly bananas (I never used to eat them, now I am eating 2-4 per day). Does this make sense to anyone? Anyone have an idea what this could mean? So weird, I know, but I thought I would ask anyway! Thanks!!!

Are you drinking lots of water? Eating enough good fats? Electrolytes from celery, young coconuts, nuts, etc.? Bananas have potassium, and it needs to be balanced with the right amount of sodium, so celery or celery juice can help if that’s the problem.

i have had a dry mouth for a few weeks too. so has my husband. i have read other people have some of this as detox. i better get some coconut oil to rub on it.

ps: see the banana thread. enjoy them while they last!

It could be that dry weather is affecting your body. Or that you’re experiencing a weird cold. Or your immune system is very low. Be sure to drink plenty of water. Try to use vasoline on your lips.

I’ve never heard of a bad reaction to fruit that came in the form of chapped lips… but try a week off bananas or other fruit and see if it goes away, then try eating fruit again for a week, then another week off. If this problem consistently appears, then try to narrow down what type of fruit you’re allergic to.

Or think about any other chemicals that could affect you (shampoo? soap? chapstick? toothpaste? medicine? coffee? soda?) These can have more dangerous chemicals than you think!

What do you eat? Do you sleep enough? How much raw food? What non raw foods do you eat? Any other information?

mangos can make your lips blister.

Vaseline is petroleum – better to use coconut oil on lips/skin in general. Mangoes & pineapple do it to me, too (but no blistering) – I always rinse off my mouth right after eating them & that usually does the trick in preventing it.

I’ve had this problem since taking E3Live algae. I’ve read that it can be due to being too alkaline. I checked my urine for Ph value and it was at the most alkaline level on the test strip. Since discovering this, I cut back on the algae to just 1 Tbs/day and it has gotten better. Hope this helps. Btw, I find coconut oil to be too weak for my chapped lips. I use something not vegan, but best thing ever – pure lanolin (left over from my breastfeeding days).

Green leafies are the most alkalizing (also green algae, spirulina, etc.). To balance, if you eat lots of alkalizing foods, try adding/increasing acid-forming foods, like grains, seeds, nuts (almonds are alkalizing, though), lentils, bananas, avocados, dates, plums, etc. These foods are only slightly acid-forming, whereas the green stuff is extremely alkalizing. Most of us are too acidic, at least at first, but either extreme is no good. Some symptoms of being too alkaline include laziness, spaciness & lack of drive – These foods and symptoms are according to David Wolfe in Eating For Beauty.

Speaking of lips, I sunburned the heck out of mine (and my face and shoulders) after hanging out at a waterpark for like five hours.
