a little nervous about all raw...
a little nervous about all raw...
I’m very excited to be joining you all on this raw journey. I eat mostly raw (about 75%), but I’m a little afraid to take the big leap to all raw. I was alarmed about how sick you can become when your body is ridding itself of toxins. Some of the stuff I read was pretty scary! Some people seemed to suffer with severe symptoms for so long, and so many times.
I’m just wondering what it was like for you. I’m not sure what to expect, and I’m looking forward to more positive changes ahead (I have noticed a feeling of better well-being since I’ve started)
Oh wow. my journey was not a good one to be honest. I actually developed and eating disorder because I was not allowing my self to eat any cooked food period. I will tell you something, DO NOT jump into eating raw all at once. If you do this it usually means you will binge eat many times along the way. I wish I would have done that but too late. I am fine now and I have actually gotten use to raw food because it is actually the only food that appeals to me. So I am happy I am raw no, but the first year or two was absolute hell for me. Don let this scare you in any way just take my advice slow. May your health increase everyday!
I couldn’t agree more. Take your time! 75% is awesome.
When I first started eating raw, I also went through a 2 week detox plan. Most of the symptoms were flu-like and went away within a few days (slight headache and body ache). Right now, I am not completely raw – probably a lot like you. However, I still feel great and am healthier than I have ever been.
There are a lot of people who are 100% raw and really healthy. Many of the horror stories you’ve heard about detoxing are likely from people that went from eating a fairly SAD diet to all raw. At 75% raw, you’re already eating a fairly cleansing diet. While the transition to 100% might bring about additional detoxing, it probably won’t be as severe as going from 0 to 100%. Definitely take your time and think about working with a naturopath or nutritionist who is into raw foods.
I had physical detox symptoms of stomach ahce, muscle ache, fatigue and headache. I learned that yoga was a detoxifying form of exercise.
The stretching and compression of the muscles during yoga asanas massages the lymph through your system. Lymph carries toxins out of our body but it relies on movement for it to circulate, not the
So I started doing Bikram Yoga in my bedroom to his CD and book. I have not had a single detox symptom since starting that yoga! I think it speeds the elimination and everything is moved very quickly through the system so it doesn’t sit around and cause problems…
Something that shook me up though, was the emotional/mental side of the detox.
Before I was doing the yoga, I had very strong emotions, memories and stuff like that, just come up out of the blue.
I had clear memories of stuff I had tried to brush under the carpet for years, it was like I had to see it and deal with it and let it go. In the same way that I had to release the food residue poisons, I had to let the mental/emotional stuff go too.
I eventually ended up going to see a counsellor who helped me enormously. We talked about everything that was coming up,and she helped me to let it all go, and soon everything evened out.
All in all it was a 3 month period of very shaky moods, plagued by bad memories and a very negative mindset I couldn’t shift. But all the time I ‘knew’ it was the detox, it didn’t feel like it was new stuff setting in, but old
stuff wanting to leave.
It came on after I had been raw for about 6 months.
I think if I had been doing yoga back then it wouldn’t have been so bad.
I thought it may help someone else to post about it on here, so you know you aren’t going mad, and the detox can sometimes be more than jst a physical thing.
I am pleased I went through that though. I feel cleaned emotionally and mentally. Old issues are totally gone, I have dealt with it. If I hadn’t gone raw then I’d still be carrying all that old crap around with me. I feel reborn. A raw foodist called Jatinder said that ” Going raw was like re incarnating without dying”, I totally agree.
For me it took 2-3 years of learning and experementing before I got to the point where I knew I was ready. I always just ate whatever I wanted. Sometimes that would be 100% for a few days, sometimes it was all you can eat deep fried chinese vegan buffet.
I was a vegetarian for 8 years, but I ate a lot of eggs, than I got to be a vegan for six months, and now almost three months raw. What helped me a lot with the toxins and elimination was the skin brushing that I love.Every day before my bath I brush my skin for 5 minuts.I also walk for 1 hour every day. That helps a lot too.
You are correct. Eating some cooked will keep you out of detox. A slow transition is best. But I do advise geting through that detox period at some point. You can do cleanses and yoga to make it quicker and easier, but get that crap out of you. Toxin free and 100% Raw is a worth while goal!
I would recommend “12 steps to Raw Foods” by Victoria Boutenko. It’s a great way to start!
yes, I used to ease the detox by eating cooked food. Whenever it got too much I’d eat a bag of chips(french fries) which put a stop to any detoxing. It was amazing, as soon as I was about halfway through them, my whole mood would go back to normal. And then after a day had gone by with me back on 100% raw, the emotional detox would be back and I’d be a headcase again!
