Mushy Mushrooms

Happy thanksgiving to everyone!

I was making portobello mushrooms steaks for the first time last night for thanksgiving dinner today. I didnt really know what I was doing so I washed the mushrooms and put my marinade on. Well they ended up being really mushy and soggy. I googled it and found that apparently your not supposed to wash the mushrooms because they absord water. I am so bummed about this, anyone have any suggestions to fix these? I cant go pick up more and these were going to be part of my main course.

Thank you!

  • Sprinkle with salt and throw them in the dehydrator for a while?

I wish I had a better suggestion. I hope that by bumping this to the front page, you will get a better answer!

you could dehydrate them? i'm thinking that might work so it would take some of the moisture out without taking the flavor with it. i would say start it on 145 F for an hour and then lower it to 105 F. i like doing this because bacteria breads in those sheets and it's best to keep it in there for as little time as possible.

Well I put them in the dehydrator after sprinkling them with salt. They were horrible. I actually felt sick, and im feeling sick just thinking about it. Epic failure. Im wondering now if i will be able to eat mushrooms again.
