Need advice for blender!

germin8germin8 Raw Master

Okay, so I said I was going to get a Vita-Mix. BUT, I am not ready to spend $400 right now. PLUS, I host my first raw food lunch in August… and I want my salad dressings and alfredo sauce to turn out smooth. SO, I am going to buy an affordable blender just for the August lunch. My Vita-Mix will have to wait… mainly because I can’t decide if I really, really want one (after I learned about the oxidation). By affordable, I mean somewhere between $30 and $80 (not from ebay, or the like)... and what things should I consider? My magic bullet (which my mother-in-law gave me) works great… but not for smooth-enough dressings. Or maybe I do not blend it “long enough”, in that case, what is “long enough”?

Thanks for your input!

  • My dad gave us a hamoltonbeach one that i use as a food processor and blender. It works soo well. I make baby food with it. I’m pretty sure he didn’t spend more than 80.

The most important thing about a blender is the blades. The closer to edge that they reach the better. It’s really good if the blades reach the bottom well also and the best blenders have six blades. 2 running along the bottom, 2 running to the sides of the bottom and 2 pointing up into the blender. The next most important thing is wattage. The bigger the better. I currently have a couple. The one I use the most was only

The Braun PowerMax MX2050 is consistently rated very highly by Consumer Reports, and it is always one of their top picks for value, as it sells for just $50. It beats out many more expensive blenders. The only ones rated higher are the top of the line ones: Vitamix, Blendtec, and Breville (in that order) are the top 3, and they are 4 to 8 times the price! The Oster Counterforms BVLBO7-L is rated equal to the Braun and it is listed at $80.

But you don’t need an expensive blender to get perfect sauces and dressings! You just need a good strainer. I have a Vitamix, but I still strain everything – Sometimes I strain twice! The difference it makes is really amazing in terms of giving you restaurant-quality smoothness. And since texture is such an important issue with raw food, I’ve really found this to be an invaluable tool.

  • I have a CuisinArt…I’ve always had a CuisinArt, I don’t know any other blender.

Well, my 2 cents is don’t get a kitchenaid!!! LOL! That’s what I used to have and that lead me straight to my vitamix purchase!

Coconutty, my brother had a horrible experience with a kitchenaid blender, too! It’s so odd because so many of their other products are great. I don’t know why they can’t get the blender right.

jenny – yeah I agree! I don’t get it! I mean when a blender can’t even blend a smoothie and you are left with strawberry and mango chunks… time for a new one! Sorry kitchenaid, I don’t like chunky smoothies!!!

  • Ive just bought a blendtec hp3a home blender and despite being expensive, its really good..i payed it off over a few months and its worth getting something like this or a vitamix..think of it as a replacement for the ongoing costs of medicine and pills that you wont need by eating raw..

  • i thought maybe i was doing something wrong with my kitchenaid! luckily it’s going back to my mom and i’m getting a new one, but it’s terrible! this morning i made my green smoothie with ginger and mango and i bit into a remaining lump i thought was mango, but it was a huge hunk of ginger….so gross.

i’m hating it, but i may have to strain my smoothies until i move (living with the rents for a few months).

I like my Oster fusion blender with two direction blending. It also has a food chop function. But, I would actually prefer a Vitamix. I just can’t justify spending the money when the blender that I have does a good job.

  • Blendtec 3hp all the way baby! You’ll never get a smoother sauce or nutmilk, and it breaks down greens like nobody’s business!

I like Cuisinart a lot. I have the Supreme Super 600 with a thick glass blender jar. I don’t approve of blender with plastic blender jar because I am always worried about the chemicals in the plastics seeping into my food. Check it out on www.cuisinart.com It is only $100 bucks which is an awesome price for a really strong and reliable blender. I have seen other like the Vitamix going for like $300. And again the Vitamix has the plastic jar.
