New and from CT

Well, I’m not exactly new here, but I just wanted to see if anyone was from Connecticut.

  • I am! I live in North Branford… have you been to any local meetups yet? :) Haha, it’s so great to see another CT member online!

  • Nah, no local meet ups, unfortunately it’s hard to meet other people with our lifestyles!!

  • Free Spirit..I live in Hamden…Have you been to the new cafe in West Haven? Or visited Ahimsa? I haven’t been to any local meetups..have you? Where and when is the next one?

  • pianissimapianissima Raw Newbie

i’m in southern ct too. i’ve never heard of the new cafe in west haven, but have heards of ahimsa. reviews? i haven’t been to either.

  • i enjoy Ahimsa very much and suggest you check it out! I cant wait to go back actually. It’s the only raw restaurant around here as far as I know. I went with family and tried several items, raw tacos, raw pizza, nut loaf, beet ravoli, and zucchini lazagna. Had a bit of raw apple pie too. Check out there web site for more info. The cafe just opened the beginning of the month and I have yet to go but hope to Sun (post road race treat if i do well). Its called catch a healhty habit cafe. Where do you shop? Any special places you eat at?

Well, if you want to drive, Hartford, CT has Alchemy Juice Bar It’s my favorite raw restaurant. Actually, I like all the raw restaurants I’ve visted… but, I really liked Alchemy Juice Bar. Try their Mediterranean pizza or the Mexican platter.

Hartford is only 40 miles from Somers & North Branford (both in opposite directions from Hartford).

Here’s a better link to Alchemy Cafe

joyceH-sorry i didn’t see this before. the only food co-op in CT is in willimantic, so i believe that would be a good bet. it’s REALLY! worth it. they have so many cool specialty items and local produce. they have a charge if you are not a member, but they were really sweet and waived it for me cuz it was my first time.

runnagurl- i don’t actually eat out all that much. but i have tried alchemy (not to great success as the pizza crust i had had gotten freezer burn… but i think on a better day it would have been fine). ahimsa sounds great and i am often in new haven. now that you mention the slogan i am sure i have met the people behind that one. it’s a small raw world. =) i shop at local farms in the summer, but buy from whole foods and costco in the winter… g’luck on your race. i’d love to hear how this diet works for an athlete.

  • Wow, I just found this info in today’s paper. I hope it is in time for some of you to attend (I have another committment), or I hope you find the contact info helpful. If you go, could you please report back? From the Hartford Courant, Saturday, Feb 23 2008:

    Sunday, February, 24, 2008
