NOTICE: Gone Raw Moved, Please Read!

Okay, so the day is near. We’ve got our survey results tabulated, we’ve heard everyone’s requests, and we’re ready to get back to working on Gone Raw. It’s been a while since we’ve added new features, and we’re really excited to do so. But first…

The web hosting plan for Gone Raw is no longer adequate for the number of users and the amount of activity we’re seeing – and we hope to see even more! You’ve probably all noticed a few times when you’ve come to visit Gone Raw that the site is “gone.” We usually catch these issues quickly, but it sure is getting old. We want Gone Raw to be the best site of its kind in the world, and a big part of that is making sure it’s there when you need it!

So tomorrow we’re moving to a new web host. We’ll start in the early afternoon tomorrow (Friday afternoon, PST) and it might take anywhere between 2 and 48 hours before you see Gone Raw again. Never fear – we’ll be right back, and better than ever. While we’re moving Gone Raw, we’ll try to keep a page up indicating how we’re doing, if possible.

So that’s it. Just wanted everyone to know about the change, and when you stop by this weekend, you should see a much faster and more reliable Gone Raw. See you then!

  • magdi, it will be the same address, and everything else. It will just be “gone” for a few hours or so.

  • Just so everyone knows, Gone Raw has finished our move! We’re on the new web server and faster than ever. We should also stay online all the time now, and not vanish for an hour or two here or there like we were.

  • Okay, it looks like everything should be fixed now. Membership signups are working, we’re not seeing any error messages, and the site is every bit as quick and snappy as we’d hoped. Enjoy!

  • Well we sure have put in our share of work on Gone Raw this weekend! We’ve (mostly) sorted out the slowness issues, but now we have an even bigger problem: people can’t get signed up! Turns out our “mail server” went haywire during the move, and it’s going to take us another day or so to get it straightened out.

    So I just wanted to give everyone the heads up: you can’t sign up for a Gone Raw membership right now! I know, I know, this is terrible, awful, horrible! You can try, but you won’t get an email from us, so it just won’t work.

    Please bear with us. We’ll have it straightened out in no time, but meanwhile, we apologize for the inconvenience. I will be sure to let you know the very minute we have it working again. Thanks!

  • I should point out that we’ve noticed some serious problems today with loading some of the pages on the site. We’re looking into this and will fix it as soon as possible, even though it’s a very lovely weekend indeed!

    Are others seeing some pages take a really long time to load, too?

    Yes it does seem slow to me. I have clicked on home and other pages have come up as well. Good Luck.

  • OK, thanks again for the heads up. We’re devoting most of the week here to getting this all straightened out and ready for some new features!

  • Wow, we sure are having some problems here getting us up and running on the new computer! I must again apologize: Gone Raw was down for about the past four hours, as doubtless many of you noticed. Again: sorry. We really honestly sincerely are trying to iron out these kinks!!!
