period questions

bittbitt Raw Newbie

sorry guys, you might not be able to help much here.

I just went off the pill 2 months ago and this is my 2nd period off the pill. It has been very heavy and i have been very weak today and dizzy at points. I weighed myself (which i really shouldn’t have done) and i was like 4 pounds more than last time. is this all my period? why is it so heavy? I am also iron deficient and this could play into it. i am not having cramps, just lots of bleeding and dizziness. i had an iron-rich dinner of green smoothie with beet greens and buckwheat cereal. any other diet suggestions are welcome.

this is just a stab, but here goes…

i explained the “science” of this in another post, so read this first if you will

ok. so, women have another way to detox, which is bleeding. the fact that you are bleeding so much could be due to a sort of “opening of the floodgates” of the gas in your cells, compounded with the fact that you are having your period. that’s a lot of detox all at once! in my experience, i was iron deficient BECAUSE my periods were heavy, not the other way around… (this was before i was raw).

if you came off meds, imagine how much clean-up your body has to do. it may take a while to find equilibrium.

i hope someone comes and has a better idea of what’s going on though…

oh, in terms of diet: SIMPLE. you want to give your body the least amount of work possible. healing is the result of what we LEAVE OUT of our diet, not what we include. to get a better idea, it would be helpful to hear what your diet is like though.

  • This is something I always wanted to ask and never had the chance before ^^ Why there are some womans that dont have a period when they become raw?

bitt – i have experienced something related… when going off the pill, i didn’t have my period for 6 or 8 months. i think the pill just messes with your body. i had to take drugs in order to start having it again! perhaps the detox thing is involved. i do hope you feel better, that’s an annoying problem to have! spinach definitely sounds helpful… iron rich greens are a very smart inclusion. i just read at a website that when you come off the pill, your periods will be heavier than before. stress can also cause it.

  • hi bitt, i’m sorry i can’t contribute a possible answer, but i’ve been going through something vaguely similar. my period has been on and off (mostly on) for the past three weeks, and i’m hoping that it’s some sort of detoxing my body is undergoing, as the period started just a bit after i started a very short juice feast and then mini-fast. anyway, good luck and i hope you feel better soon!

Allantgy, i don’t know if this has to do with being raw but sometimes women just don’t get it for a variety of reasons. one of which is low body fat (athletes can have this too). low body fat is NOT my problem right now!

  • I understand, I just wanted to ask ^ Hope you get better, and stay out of drugs, even the legal ones ^

Whenever you come off the pill you’re body goes haywire for a few months until it calms down. You might get all the symptoms being on the pill took away – bad skin, painful periods, heavy bleeding, bloating, breast tenderness. It’s all hormonal and your body’s no longer being told what to do, so it needs time to get back into whack. That’s also one of the reasons they tell women to wait at least 6 months to try to conceive after coming off the pill. Hope this helps!

  • I was on the pill for two years, then the shot for one. It was an aweful experience and when I did stop the injections I lost my period for over a year. Then I became veggie and lost my period again for half a year. When I went vegan/raw I lost my period for 3-4 months. Our bodyies just need time to adjust, especially when we are shoving in all those toxins. This is very difficult when we have busy lives and never know when to expect aunt flow. My cycle is still not normal. I notice when my body fat fluctuates even 1% my cycle is efffected. Hang in there.

yeah it’s back to how it was before i was on the pill. i’d forgotten. it come for one and half days and then is practically over. having it come all at once is pretty intense.

jeez, i don’t know how you guys cope with no period for that long. i freak out if it is only a few days late. i’m like at the drugstore getting the pregnancy tests. but i suppose that explains why someone i know didn’t realize she was pregnant for 6 months after the little guy was conceived!
