Please tell me it gets better... or goes away???

Hi All-

And now, for everyone's favorite topic... gas.

I joined this fab site last fall but have been a considerably higher percentage of RAW since the beginning of 2009. I have also cut out meat (except **occasional** fish) and most dairy, which I have never done before. I am trying to listen to my body and respect the path, but I have not felt lead to go back to eating meat since the beginning of this month when I did a juice Cleanse.

Here's the thing... the last 4-5 days I have had the most *outrageous* gas. Fruits and veggies have ALWAYS made up a large percentage of my eating habits, but this is the first time they have ever really been my mainstay with eating. Is it just my colon cleaning out a bit? I did have a little tofu over the weekend, could it be that? I am just feeling so sorry for my poor husband! Has anyone else experienced this when they are first incorporating Raw eating into their life? Is it some detoxing? I do eat nuts too but never without soaking them.

I feel like a real tool asking this but am hoping someone can shed some light or share their experience. Many thanks for taking a look at the post and into my personal life :-)

I'd recommend getting colon hydrotherapy. I had the same problem as you, and it wasn't fixed till i did colon hydrotherapy regularly (every 2 months). Also, nuts and nutmilk can cause gas. As can cruciferous veggies.

  • Hi! You may want to consider the foods that you are combining. I have a lot of problems if I eat foods that I know don't combine well. Food combinations are different for everyone, so you may want to keep a log for a few days to see which foods you ate together, how far apart and the results. Apples are a big problem for me if I don't eat them on an empty stomach. And like Winona suggested, not fully eliminating will cause gas & bloating.

Apples used to ALWAYS give me problems until I went on a pretty intense detox for about a month of eating only apples, berries, veggies, and just a few dates (i.e. no fat, bananas). Oh, and I always peel them now. It's so much easier to digest.

Food combining is really important. I recommend focusing on sweet fruits and veggies (especially blended). Food combining can make a huge difference.

  • Oh wow! I hadn't been able to come back and check the thread since I posted and here are some responses! Thanks so much guys!

Winona it's so funny because I was thinking right after I posted that I have been meaning to get in for some CH. I am going to try and get that scheduled ASAP. I think I could really benefit from it.

Pink and Zin thanks for the suggestions about the combining, it's something I have tried to be sensitive to on a more general scale. I don't tend to combine *too* many things at once but I have been making a lot of nut "sauces" lately (fairly addicted to the Rich Cheddar Sauce recipe) so that could be contributing. I have been wanting to experiment with sunflower or pumkin seeds... the only pumpkin I can find are the "pepitas", the green ones. Are those the same?

Anyway, thanks so much for taking the time to respond. I like the idea of a journaling for a few days too. If anyone else has anything to share that'd be awesome.

    You all really rock.

    Namaste!
