Raw Food Menus and Rotation

Good Morning All Raw Foodists!

I have been transitioning to 100% raw since December and feel planning to be the best tool in maintaining a raw lifestyle. I have heard a few people talk about a two or four week raw menu rotation. This way you always have the right things in the fridge and are prepared when cravings occur. If anyone has something like this and would like to share it please contact me! Thanks.

  • I keep some things around ALL the time.

    Dates (for sweet cravings)

    Bananas (to grab something quickly and time of day)

    lettuce or greens of some sort ( a salad is ALWAY good)

    seaweed (I eat sea veggies alot)

    raw crackers or chips (for the munchies)

    raw cocoa sauce (for chocolate cravings)

    young coconuts when available (cause they're awesome, and a bit of a novelty around these parts)

    You will learn your own weaknesses and what you need to keep on hand. For example, some people don't crave chocolate, so they wouldn't need that.

    I've been raw since Christmas, and I find having stuff handy is definately the key. I plan a weeks worth of dinner meals ahead of time. This way I can shop for the week, and it all lasts. I can't imagine shopping for longer than that, because I would never eat it all before it went bad. Whatever leftovers, or remaing veggies I have from making recipes, I eat for lunch, but try to change it up a little bit. Usually grab some fruit for breakfast. It's been working well for me.

    Planning is fine, but be flexible too. Honestly if you aren't in the habit of getting your produce at the farmers' market, that's the best place to do your meal planning. You'll be getting the best, freshest, seasonally appropriate locally grown ingredients.

    I used to do this when I cooked. Now I just buy all of the things that I like and then open the fridge and get inspired. Occassionally I will find a recipe that I like and buy stuff especially for it, but the longer I am raw, the more simple I eat. Ok, so an idea. Make a list of a few recipes or meals that you'd like to try this week. THen make sure that you have all of the ingredients. That way you can come home and see what sounds best to you from your list and know that you have everything you need to make it. It also gives you an opportunity to try lots of new things so you can decide what you will repeat and what you won't. Instead of having just a couple of weeks that you repeat, make a new list each week based on what you feel like eating. I find that my taste has changed the longer I am raw.

  • I agree with both the other comments as well. I like to plan, but need to be flexible.Sometimes things go bad faster than you expect, so you need to use them. Improvise a bit. I also make sure to change up what I'm eating every week. It's easy to get stuck in a rut and eat the same thing over and over. Whatever appeals to you, pick it up and try it out! I usually eat pretty simply, but sometimes it's fun to have some fancier, gourmet meals.
