Raw in Glasgow

Hi from Glasgow! I’m just about to go raw. I’ve been back and forth between raw and sad for a while, and it’s time for me to do it for real. I would love some local support if at all possible, and I’m pretty sure there are a few other Glaswegians on here.

Anyway, I’m originally from the US, and I’ve been interested in nutrition for quite a while. I even considered becoming a nutritionist (before I chose a different career path). I’m convinced that eating a high percentage (or all) raw food is the best thing I can do for myself.

I’m excited for the transformation ahead. Woo hoo!

  • Hi beanmonkee, i’m in Bolton, not that far away. I’ve not met another raw foodist in over 6yrs, so dont hold your breath, best of luck anyway. I came to raw through diabetes, searching for a cure. A german dentist, Johann Schnitzer pointed the way to a prehistoric diet, i learnt a lot off him, that was in 2002. Trust your instincts, you’ve got it right, transformation, raw is best.

Hi beanmonkee, I’m in the North West just outside Manchester. (Very, very close to Mr. Bad News who wrote the previous post.) My husband and I run Purely Raw (www.purelyraw.com) we have a free monthly potluck where about 30 raw foodists from all over the North West come and kick their heels up and have a laugh and some great food. We even had a couple from Dundee in Scotland come down for it!!

There is a “raw in scotland” group on www.giveittomeraw.com and a few Scots on here too. You are not alone!!

And up in Edinburgh, pretty close to you is the UK’s one and only raw food cafe called Red Sugar (www.red-sugar.co.uk) they are all raw and do superfood smoothies, juices, cold pressed raw coffee, and cakes, mmmmmmmm It is run by a lovely couple Jillian and Steve.

Great to meet you, hope to meet you in person some time ;))

    Welcome gina!

  • Thanks for the great welcome! I’m actually going to be in your neck of the woods this weekend, Zoe and badnews—too bad that potluck was last week. My best friend lives in Bolton, and the last time I visited her, I introduced her to the concept of green smoothies—she still drinks them (not entirely raw green smoothies, but at least she’s getting her greens).

I didn’t stay raw yesterday, but today I’m cleaning out my fridge/cabinets, and I’m cleaning my flat, and I’m getting my whole mind clear for a change to a new me. Yay! I’ll let you know how it goes.

Hello Beanmonkee and welcome to goneraw. There are quite a few Glasgwegians now doing raw. I recently ran a raw food workshop in Grassroots, Woodlands Road and we had 7 keen people. Here is the link to the scottish group I started on GITMR RawInScotland There are some lovely people on this site too and all very helpful. If you have any questions about going raw, do post them.
