Raw from NW Indiana!

Well, I’ve already been posting in the “New to Raw” section, but I figured I’d should probably get around to posting something in here, as well.

I live in NW Indiana and commute to Chicago every day for work. I work as a 3D Animator for litigation. So basically I make animations for lawyers for their lawsuits (a lot of patent cases, some accident recreations, medical devices, etc.) My fiance (wedding is this October!) also works in Chicago, but he takes the train into work every day. He works as programmer/software developer for a company that deals with financial trading.

So how did I come to raw?

I was an off-again/on-again vegetarian ever since I was a kid. When I finally met my fiance 3 years ago, I had kind of given up on it, and was just trying to eat a balanced diet of all the food groups. I started working out a lot more (I was overweight at the time) and I managed to lose about 20 pounds. Time went on, I gained maybe 5 pounds back over the years as I became more lax with our eating. Then, at the start of 2008, I got serious again and got P90X for the holidays, which is an extreme home workout system. I LOVE IT! The system also came with it’s own diet plan.

So P90X is set up in 90 day rotations, so I finished one round of it, and then started up a second which I’m currently in. The workouts are 1-1&1/2 hours long 6-7 days a week. I can honestly say that at this moment, I’m in the best shape of my life.

I love the physical part, but I was still a bit frustrated with the diet part. Then I came across a thread about eating raw and doing P90X over on the P90X forums. I became really interested and checked out a bunch of books from the library and starting doing my homework.

After talking it over with my fiance, I decided to go for it. I bought all my supplies yesterday, and today is officially day 1. I want to eat raw for the health benefits, to have more energy, for the variety, and for the simplicity of eating without complicated cooking or baking. I’m extremely excited, and I have a feeling this is a way of eating that is just really going to jive with me and be the answer I’ve been searching for.

So that’s my story! :)

I also just wanted to say thanks to everyone here who has been so helpful thus far! This seems like a great community to be a part of!

  • Loved your story and you are going to love this diet. I admire the way you talked it over with your fiance before really going for it. The tools can be expensive, but are so worth it and I find myself using them EVERY day. Can’t live without my blender and food processor (which hubby bought me after I burned he motor out on my mini-food processor when I started going raw). There are so many good things to eat, and you are going to look and feel great! I’ll have to check out the P90X… I’m really into exercise and working out at home can be a plus in many ways. Good luck!

  • Yeah, if you have any questions about P90X, let me know. I’m obsessed with it! Hahah! It’s such a great workout system.

So far things have been going well. I like how light and energetic I feel after eating, instead of weighted down and drowsy!

Day 3 is in the books. :)
