raw questions

I am new to becoming raw but I’m starting to really go for it. I am wondering, should I soak my nuts before snacking on them? I read somewhere that I should germinate them first, but they seem a little soggy. Also, I saw that they have almond milk in the store now, but I’m not sure how “raw” and healthy it is since my home made almond milk only lasts for a few days. I would love to find sample daily meals that people eat. I am worried that I will get tired of the same old things to eat. I bought a dehydrater even though I have no idea how to use it but it hasn’t come in the mail yet. Help!

There is a topic here about soaking the nuts. Read my 2nd post.

Germinating/Soaking allows for easier digestion by removing enzyme inhibitors.

The almond milk you buy in the grocery store (on the shelf) is NOT raw. Raw food is typically kept in the refrigerated section… if it says “RAW” it does not always mean it is alive, living food. “RAW” could just mean they use only “raw” ingredients. Usually I find that truly raw packaged foods have a label with words like – soaked, germinated, living, unheated, heated below 118F, or heated at low temperatures.

  • Hi Show me! The best thing to do with your soaked nuts is make them into dips, dressing, or nut cheese. Then you can dip any veges in them. You could blend up any nuts with dates, cinnamon, or raisins and eat that dip on apples etc. You could slice a mellon and put a ice cream scoop of nut cheese in the middle and eat that for breakfast or lunch as a take off on the old mellon and cottage cheese idea.

If you blend up your nuts with water to make nut milk- you could freeze it to make it last longer. You could freeze it in togo cups for a snack on the go-

Make a big batch of mixed nuts, raisins, dates, what ever you have- chop a little and keep for instant gorp or for breakfast with milk poured over it.

A great thing to do is soak nuts with herbs or soy sauce (though this may not be raw depending on what you have) then dehydrate- it will flavor your nuts and make them last. You could just use olive oil and garlic. Nuts have enzyme inhibitors in them that’s why people soak them but that doesn’t mean every time you eat a nut it has to be soggy! Hope this helps!

you can soak nuts and then drain/dry them. you can also dehydrate them after soaking. soaking makes them more digestible.

  • you can make decent raw almond milk in a soyabella.

you can buy them for under 80 bucks

    blindguru.com

you can see a video demo on youtube.com by typing in soyabella

  • I love the idea of blending nuts into dressings. I need to look for some more recipes for that. I have a Vitamix but not a soyabella. I just looked it up on the internet and I’m wondering with a Soyabella do I have to strain the milk in nut milk bags or does this do it for you? If it strains it without me having to do it, I’m buying one!
