Raw Revolution Bars

Hey all,

Just wondering if the Raw Revolution Organic food bars are really raw? They are made with cashews and other nuts, and I know that the Larabars use pasteurized nuts... Just curious! They're pretty tasty and organic, which makes me want to eat them.

Thanks,

Emily

Some of them are 100%. Others rage from 90%-98.4%. If you look on the back of the package where the ingredients are listed, right underneath there it tells you how raw it it is. Their Spirulina Agave Cashew bars are 100%. I think the Agave and Cashew, and the Cacao Hazelnut are 100% (or at least 98.4%).

23 grams of fat in one bar, and yet raw foodists wonder why they're failing on the raw diet. *Rolls eyes*

As rawaholic said some are 100% while others are not. Ive never tried them because they are so expensive around here, but if you like them eat them! Who cares that they have 23 grams of fat? As long as your not eating them all day everyday you will be fine. Everything can be good in moderation.

Everything in moderation? Poor health in moderation? I never understood that comment. Cigarettes and cocaine in moderation? Unprotected sex here and there as long as it's not more than once a week?

I think to say fruits and vegetables in abundance; nuts, seeds, and other high-fat "raw" foods in moderation isn't too bad of a stretch.......but "everything"? Really? You sure? :D

I don't think the cacao in them is even touted to be raw or less processed. But I think they say 95% raw or something on the package. Silly to be named raw revolution if they are not raw! Although a lot of raw foodies out there are not dogmatic about it.

  • "Everything in moderation? Poor health in moderation? I never understood that comment. "

The quote "everything in moderation" comes from an inscription on the temple of Apollo at Delphi, and is an example of the Greek philosophy of moderation as healthy. Though you pointed out that there can definately be exceptions when taken completely literally- in a general sense I would agree with it.

Exercise is healthy- in moderation. Over exercising can cause lots of problems. Food is good for you too, in moderation. Eight hours of sleep is good. Not getting enough, or just laying around all day- is unhealthy.

It is meant to discourage extremism. At least, that is my understanding of it.

Maybe a clearer way to say it would be- 23 grams of fat in the raw revolution bar isn't going to kill you or greatly injure you. Be moderate the rest of the day, and lay off high fat food, and it will average out. Worrying too much about one high fat bar is probably worse for your health than eating the high fat.

Your definition of "extremism" or concern for what others think may be different, though. That's the problem with words. Everyone has a different understanding of what they mean, even with dictionary definitions to help us, as we all have different experiences, down to what "blue" looks like.

I think NOT CONSUMING something or choosing not to consume something is different than "worry" over something, also. At least to me.

lol, superfood2's responses are always like reading 80/10/10. Either 1) eat more bananas or 2) too much fat. So predictable. Not necessarily wrong, but humorously predictable. And often right, I would say

Also, though, "poor health" is also relative. Be honest with yourself based on your own experiences and what you've learned, and make decisions from there. Everything doesn't have to be the perfect, just be consistent in making the forward progress that you want to.

I eat a lot more fruit than bananas. I didn't even read 801010 until recently. I was already a high-fruit, low-fat person prior. I guess great minds think alike.

I think it all depends on where you are at in your raw journey. When I first started "dabbling" with raw food I was very much into gourmet raw and I LOVED the Raw Revolution bars. After finally going 100% raw for a while I found that I was able to really understand how my body was feeling and I followed those feelings. Eventually that led me to eating a high-fruit, low-fat, raw plant based diet. I don't really want or crave gourmet raw or the Raw Revolution bars anymore.

Remember cooked food is an addiction, and it sort of "numbs" you so you can't really feel how crappy you DO feel. When people first switch to raw foods they often tend to go to something comforting and recognizable. As time goes on and they become more in tune with what foods promote energy, good mood, and an overall healthy feeling, I do believe they eventually will gravitate to less fat and more fruit.

  • +1 to Rawaholic. Everyone is at a different point in their raw journeys. I've never had the Raw Revolution bars and it's likely that the nuts are pasteurized, but for someone transitioning or simply aiming to eat more healthfully, they are a better choice than a SAD cookie or brownie and can help keep people on the raw path.

  • These bars are seriously a life saver.

When im busy and can't find time to make something to eat these bars serve as a tasty snack.

When compared to any other bars out there, these Raw Revolution bars are a pretty great choice.

Think about it: no preservatives, no artificial flavor, food coloring, etc.

I think its all about personal preference though just like eating only 70% raw or high raw.

Superfood i believe you took what i said to an extreme.

All things can be good in moderation. Obviously i was not referring to drugs like cocaine and alchol you are just grasping at straws. We are talking about a packaged bar here. Sisterbecky does make a point though, to most things this saying can be applied. But after all it is just a saying ;) Don't take it too seriously.

Rawaholic said it best - everyone is somewhere different on their raw journey.

As far as I know, the word "everything" isn't up to interpretation. It means.....every thing.

  • I think that the phrase "everything in moderation" does not include EVERYTHING. Because if it included everything, then it would be suggesting that we eat dog poop in moderation, or punch old ladies in the face in moderation. I think that, although EVERYTHING is open to interpretation, the general "for the public" meaning of the phrase is USUALLY recognized as, "Everything that is appropriate for human behavior or consumption in moderation," which would vary from culture to culture.

I appreciate everyone's input on the Raw Revolution Bars. They are so tasty!!

  • If eating an occasional raw revolution bar is your worst indulgence, you are probably living a pretty healthy life:-)

"Cigarettes and cocaine in moderation? Unprotected sex here and there as long as it's not more than once a week?"

"Nealry everything in moderation" then. There will always be exceptions and loopholes.

Just so you know many companies call there cashews raw when in-fact they steam them to get rid of the natural toxin found on the outside of the cashew.

  • The fat in Raw Revolution is almost all healthy fat...just like an avocado has 21 grams of fat but it is one of the most nutrient rich health foods around.
