Raw Teenagers

It seems like nearly every raw fooder are more adults, which is awesome! But where are the raw teenagers and children? I think it’s so important for young adults to know about raw food and to be informed about a healthy life.

My son is raw 14 year old, and my daughter is a soon to be raw 4 year old! I knowthere are others on this site that have raw kids too!

  • I’m 19 and raw. People are really nice about it for the most part (I live in a co-op with a bunch of meat eaters and they LOVE my food). Though when I go to raw food events I do get a bit lonely as I’m usually the youngest by a lot of years.

  • It’s cool to meet more raw teenagers, as I’m one myself. You all are so encouraging and supportive.

    raw teen right here=)

and for the record, i find that as long as im not too forceful, most people are more than happy to listen to the basic facts of my diet when they ask me about it, as well as sample (and usually be pleasantly surprised) by the food. even my best friend, who laughs heartily at any mention of good nutrition or health, makes a weekly trip with me to the local organic market. i think people gravitate towards happier people, and thats what i’ve found makes the most difference. a positive and non-judgemental approach with people eating a SAD diet is key to making positive influences in their health.

  • Yeah I’m 20 and before I started working at a health food store never knew anyone else into raw, now there’s a handful of kids my age who wanna go raw which is so so fun. In general though we kids are a minority in the raw food world, not for long I hope!

  • I’m 21 and raw! weeeeeeee

I only know one other raw foodie and it’s an older woman co-worker at the Health food store i work at. She’s to thank for me taking my interest in raw foods and acting on it. :]

I agree, it gets lonely here on the other side! my friends are always eating cooked foods.. I have a handful of vegetarian/vegan friends.. but it’s just not the same once you go raw. All of my friends think i’m insane and scoff at the idea of raw foodism. :[

We should post on here about our struggles and/or things we’ve found make our lives easier, being a raw teen [okay I no longer qualify as a teen.. but whatever] in a SAD world.. and any advice you’d like to give to others. Yeah! hah, okay. As soon as i think of something like that, I’ll post it.

I’m 24, first went raw at 21, but I’d like to report that there are lots of kids in our local DC raw meetup/potluck group and that my 16 year-old sister is well on her way to going raw, and definitely influencing her schoolfriends along the way. Seriously, other kids who think she’s cool copy her and go get Lara Bars and Kombuchas at the health food store instead of pizza after school now, it’s pretty funny to watch.

  • I’m 22, does that count? My cousin is 21 and also raw :) Its great having her to talk to. We don’t live close to each other but we are constantly swapping recipes and talking about raw food, how to deal with SAD eating family members, and how to resist cravings as we go through detox! We started out on this together and its really exciting.

Besides this site and her, I don’t know any other raw foodists…

  • Where does everybody live? I live in wisconsin, USA. :[

I’m hoping to move to Berkely, CA in about two years. in about a year and a half I’ll be in Japan for a year.

All I can say is I wish I knew then what I know now!

  • Lansing, Michigan. Indiana when I can swing it.

  • I’m from Canada. Hey, Mango Woman, that’s a great idea about posting and encouraging one another!

  • Im from Ontario, Canada, 18. Its cool to know thatare are more raw teens out there. Watching all my firends destroy their bodies is hard. Partying is hard too sometimes cause every one gets drunk. Has anyone tried drinking wine since being raw? I think I might give it a shot.

  • I’m 19, and live in Sacramento. I’m in a vegan household, so my roommates are very understanding of my food choices. My family just thinks I’m nuts, haha.

Nagev: I don’t really party anymore, but when I do have the occasional glass or two of wine, I don’t get the same morning-after detox symptoms as I used to from beer or liquor.

  • Sydney, Australia ..

I didn’t really think about it - Is wine raw?

  • I haven’t drank in a while.. months and months. I just.. grew out of that stage in my life i think. Beer and Liquor just make me feel disgusting.. through a high quality beer on a super hot day spent at the beach is nice. Good thing it’s winter here. When i think about drinking wine i start thinking about all the sugar they have to put in.. and other things. Good question radish_man, is there any raw wine? or any raw alcohol really?

Okay, I’m far from a teen at 42, but I’m from Indiana, Pa.- a stones throw from Greensburg! Hi Humanimal! Radish_Man- wine is raw. It is fermented and strained but not heated. I used to make my own, but I don’t drink enough to warrant all the work. I have a couple of Italian friends that make their own and give me some.

  • doesn’t wine need sugar to be created? aren’t there some other things put into the wine as well, things that definitely aren’t raw? i swear they come in little bottles and you have to add them at different stages. now i’m curious!

You can make your own hard apple cider by letting apple cider sit in a sterile, dark place. I haven’t tried it myself, but I have friends who make it. They juice the apples and that is all they use, no other ingredients…so, I think that would be considered raw.

  • Toronto, Ontario. 21, with 1 older & 5 younger siblings that about 1.5 years ago all went raw to varying degrees. Having just recently left the teen scene, I actually don’t know of anyone my age that’s Raw.

I bought juice in 5 gallon buckets. I would open it and let it ferment with the naturally occuring yeast for 5 days (I think). It had to be stirred daily and foamed like crazy! After the 5 days I would siphon it into a 5 gallon fermentation jug and put an air lock stopper on it. I think I would siphon into a new jug every few weeks or so leaving the mother behind as much as possible. You may also do this by innoculating it with certain species of yeast and other chemicals are also used for certain needs, but I never used any of that. It was fun, but labor intensive.

radish_man: there was a discussion a while back about whether wine is raw or not. Hope this helps a bit!

Hey Raw youngens! I am 18 and went raw when I was 17. I live in Alberta Canada! It is so exciting that there are so many young people doing this!

  • Hey! I’m 20 and er…going raw.. It’s been somewhat difficult since I do get cravings for some unhealthy cooked foods but I’m reading everything I can get my hands on. As for family, I live with my uncle, aunt and cousins, who all eat SAD, and my uncle teases me about having been a strict vegetarian for a very long time now. I don’t know anyone else who’s raw, except for one instructor I had for a college course I did. Oh, I’m originally from Ontario, Canada but I’m currently living in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. :)

  • Wahoo for Raw Teenage Canadians!!!!

  • Im 18 and im from Montr
