I am confused about food combining.and transition foods.I have been 80% for roughly 7 wks. Also where do grains quinoa, brown rice fall into the equation. This maybe a stretch but,If I were to get one raw recipe book what would it be ?

    Hi Logan

My advice would be just to focus on being raw and getting to being 100% raw. I have found that personally food combining doesn’t apply to raw food eating. I have had no problems when I eat raw food, make sure when you eat raw to eat all raw. I eat everything and anything as long as it is raw, in any combination. Make it easy and simple on yourself and don’t get stuck into mking this harder than it has to be. Combining fruits and veggies makes wonderful recipes and Divine flavours and makes being raw an absolute triumph!

Brown rice is not usually found raw, it is often speamed and blanched, although some people on here have actually sprouted theirs – which is often the only way to tell if it is raw or not. Maybe if you want some you should get a little and see if it is sproutable. Then you’ll know for sure you have a trusted source.

The same goes for grains. When you eat them raw they are better sprouted. Sprouted wheatberries and buckwheat (alothough it is not strictly a grain but a seed) are both good and easily found raw.

I would advise getting a number of raw recipe books. You can order them from libraries. Rhio’s ” Hooked on raw” is good, as is anything by the Boutenkos. Renee Underkoffler’s Living Cuisine is more complex but Divine! Matt Amsden’s Rawvolution is also good.

One thing to watch out for is that many raw food cook books use non raw ingredients. Check out my husband and I’s website to find out which ingredients they may be and for more advice:

And Congratulations on being 7 weeks raw!!! Hooray for you!

    Hi Logan,

Gosh I think I may confuse you more here ‘cause my experience is the opposite of Zoe’s (sorry Zoe!) I am all raw now but I still find that I need to food combine. Don’t know why..every bod is different I guess. Anyhoo, when I was starting out several years ago Natalia Roses book The Raw Food Detox Diet was very helpful to me. She explains transitioning, food combining, various pitfalls to avoid etc.. very clearly. I also found her delivery to be very practical and compassionate. Personally I did find that when I went all raw, food combining became simple.( I ditched grains pretty much too) There is simply less to mess up! ( I will say though that once in a while I use agave or nutrional yeast..)

Any raw cook book that stresses eating greens is great. Keep it simple. Don’t get sucked into trying to replicate a SAD diet via a RAW route.Dehydrated cashew cheeze out the wazoo is not your ideal ticket to health. ;-) Lots of chorophyll! is your best best bet as you adapt to this way of eating.

  • Thanks Much for your replies. My mind is in hyper speed with all the info.Natalia Roses book is the first we got.At the present time,we like her aproach, for she suggest easing into (practical and compassionate)the raw foods so as not to detox to fast. We are also in the process of getting the proper kitchen tools together. Thanks Again for your imput.

sustitute agave with dates, or any sweet fruit.
