Share Your Feel Good Meals!!!

Blessings My Raw Friends,

I wanted to start a new topic, not sure if it’s been done before but it’s something I think of often.

Tonight I was feeling a little overwhelmed from the anoretic mind due to recent excitement and ENJOYMENT of food. I have been doing very well nutritionally and it causes my eating disorders to do back flips in disapprovement. I’m working hard in recovery right now and am IN IT TO WIN IT so I’m trying to silence the voices and keep focused. RAW has helped me in so many healing ways. Anyhow, tonight I decided that what I needed to center myself was a trip to my organic garden to gather a FEEL GOOD MEAL, and also some coconut water, a potential nap (I’m in bed now on the pink laptop with dinner) and some crystal singing bowl/chanting music (thanks Stacey for the beautiful CD). My feel good meal consists of a special salad that I call “The Ultimate Offering”... I posted the recipe the other day. Tonight I tweaked it some and used lambs quarters, garden grown tomatos and strawberries, and more rose petals in my favorite shades of pink.

There is something uplifting, comforting and blissful about this meal. It’s not a form of disordered eating or thinking either. I am not using this as a “comfort food” to “numb” – I am eating it for nourishment, healing, and positive, progressive, spiritual energy from earth to plate, body and brain. The pyschological and spiritual aspects of RAW are amazing. I am sure many others experience this as well, which brings me to ask you all: What are some of your FEEL GOOD MEALS???

I graciously await your answers. It may give others ideas as well. Ps. Feel free to link recipes to your feel good meals in this thread!!! Thank you for your ind offerings.

Pink TuTu Twirls, Johnny (The current GoneRaw recipe posting hog, lol, sharing is caring!!!)

Salsa! Chopped tomatoes grown with love by my boyfriend, chopped avocado, chopped jalapeno (seeds and all), chopped green onions, a squirt of lime juice and agave, and a dash of pink salt and fresh black pepper. Rawr! I can eat this ALL day, and the spice makes me run around and sing!

heyenglish, my mouth started watering just reading that recipe. I can’t wait until tomorrow to make it!

  • samesofam: thank you, omg mango wraps…mmmm. i understand the fruit experience, sometimes the simplest smallest things become the most precious biggest things. you know? ps. where in the bay area are you? (and you can always just copy and paste links into the comment box)

I am so new to raw, I don’t have a favourite meal yet. But I remember occasions throughout my life where I would feel as if I was having a sort of awakening, a spiritual connecting in eating a simple piece of sweet, juicy fruit…an apple, a strawberry. Some moment of clarity would hit me and the deep purity of what I was doing would come over me…I was eating nature’s candy, an integral part of Mother Earth, both bringing it into my body to become a part of it and submitting to Nature and being at One with Her. I have always wanted to feel more One with Mother Earth, and sitting outside quietly and eating something pure like a piece of fruit has always given me a hint of this experience. Recalling this is part of what is inspiring me to go raw.

So not exactly a favourite meal, but just my two cents and experience :)

Yep, MANGOs do it for me. I actually read online that there is a chemical enzyme in them that creates a lift in mood. I love eating them in the morning; breakfast of champions!

Coconut water is another “feel good” thing for me. And so are ripe juicy peaches and sweet berries. And lychees! I love them because they make me slow down and become more mindful of each one; have to peel them to get to the yummy insides. Also I am a fanatical gold-kiwi eater. I don’t like the other ones, but the gold ones make my day. So delicious.

  • i’m in oakland, homie. you?
    mango wraps: http://goneraw.com/recipes/5058-summer-mango-wraps enjoy! s

  • heyenglishheyenglish Raw Newbie

I hope you enjoy it stevio! It’s super easy to make, and you can vary the amounts of ingredients to your liking. (I always go heavy on the tomatoes)

  • I am in Redwod City!

Moth: Foods have many healing properties, it’s the vitamins and minerals that really give us these wonderful feelings. COCONUT WATER is an INSTANT cure all for me. And omg LYCHEES! You have GREAT TASTE. I love them. I get them at the farmer’s market here and it’s one of the only non-organic thing I splurge on… I haven’t found organic ones anywhere : ( Ps Do you like jackfruit!?

Brawyn BEAUTIFUL comment. I understand the feeling, reminds me of fruit meditation.

  • MOTHMOTH Raw Newbie

I can’t find organic ones either. But I like to think that because they grow so far off the ground there is not much cause to spray them with any poisons. Also, the peel is pretty thick…another reassurance.

Tonight I had some corn cut fresh from the cob, chopped tomatoes and with a healthy bit of cayenne and that made me feel good inside. There’s something about spice that really satiates me. I’ve given up all spices but cayenne; Must be from living in Texas for a decade.

Fresh figs and a simple avocado. I eat the whole thing right out of the shell like ice cream. It will hold me for hours and I think the avo is a perfect food.

  • MOTHMOTH Raw Newbie

    Fruit meditation – I love that..LOL.

  • Branwyn32Branwyn32 Raw Newbie

TheRawDance- thank you! :) I suppose it is very much a form of meditation. Something about fruit that always bring that about in me…there’s a very pure, simple joy in it. Even standing in my kitchen eating blueberries earlier today…I bent down to give one to my foster dog and he om nom nommed it all up, and it just made me giggle and smile, so happy to share that with a furry friend :)

OMG Lychees! I can’t find them anywhere here in Atlanta! I’d get them in Chinatown when I lived in NYC…such a wondrous tasty little gem!

For me, it is any meal that i know has SUPER nutritional value to it. Like a smoothie with several Superfoods in it – the more the better! Like you were saying there is a psychological aspect to it. I put in maca, MSM, cacao, goji berries, camu camu and others and I know these things have high nutritional content so I know I am getting in the stuff I need.

Another thing would be just my simple chunky guacamole (which I just made and it is chilling in the fridge right now!). I know the avocado and black olives has good oils for my hair – I think of my body getting nice and oiled inside and all of that working it way to moisture my skin and hair. (Ok, wait I sound vain – but that is honestly how I think of raw food – that is is beautifing and healing)

I agree on the Coconut too. It seems so luxurious and creamy – how could it not be good for you? I imagine the water as good for my blood (since it supposedly like our blood plamsa and high in electrolytes). Aris La Tham told us that the coconuts is the one food that grows closest to the sun so it is any the highest “vibration” of sun energy. The best thing you can have.

I imagine the coconut oil or butter like the way I imagine the avocado and olive. – moisturizing, quenching and beautifying. I also imagine the coconut oil as my way to a healthy brown tan. :)

Even salt which many people are paranoid about – I love it esp the pink. I imagine it giving me lots of great minerals so I am always licking little bits of extra off my hands. :) I call them “salt” shots! :)

ok im might missing the point here, but i take feel good meals as comfort foods, aka smashies and peas, or hummus when i ate cooked, my raw comfort meal is cauliflour florets, maybe a sliced fugi apple too for dipping in the cheddar cheese sause from this site…creamy comfort personified! but if we are talking about orgasmic fruit,,,, well ive shouted it from the roof tops before…..CHERMOYA AKA CUSTARD APPle, and dont even say durian any of you or i will vomit! seriously….gag gaaaaaaag…... lycheee are fab though…..kiss kiss

  • MOTHMOTH Raw Newbie

I’ll be trying durian for the first time in a few weeks. I’m pretty excited but I don’t expect to like it, haha!

I’ve never tried a chermoya before!

  • queenfluffqueenfluff Raw Newbie

MOTH – I hated durian the first time I tried it back in Chicago. It smelled super strong like onions and I didn’t like the taste because of that smell – it stuck up my kitchen. But here in California, I like the Durians better. I don’t know why but they don’t smell as bad here and seem creamy – maybe they are fresher quality. I definatley not addicted like some people I know. Durian makes a nice creamy smoothie but I crave it. It is an acquired taste definatley.

But I hear the fresh one are the best. When you have a frozen one, you may not be getting the best quality unfortuantely and maybe not get the true taste. It is definatley worth trying though because it is just so weird looking. I think it looks like a prehistoric egg of some prehistoric bird. haha! Let us know what you think.

  • queenfluff: I look at food a lot like you do, some consider it orthorexic of me but if it’s not unhealthy for me then I don’t see a problem in it, period!

omshanti: lol dear, when i said comfort foods i meant in an eating disorder sense – like using food to numb, for addictive purposes… no worries, you got the right idea down! i am really loving everyone’s offerings… especially the coconuts and avocados people are talking about. they are my favorite of all time… what about cacao??? does anyone else pronounce it as CA CAAAAAAAAAAA and do wild bird dances???? it reminds me of a cracked out chocolate bird.

durians… you guys, i have never tried them. what do they taste like? i was watching a video on thailand the other day on youtube and it was talking about DEATH FROM DURIANS, due to them dropping and hitting people on the head. HOW HORRIBLE IS THAT? to die by durian : (((

  • jellibijellibi Raw Newbie

mmmmmmmmmmmm, raw peach cobbler. I’ve made 6 of them in the last week and a half. Just pulse almonds, pumpkin seeds, dates, and a dash of salt in your food processor and put some sliced peaches on top. If I had to compare it to some non-food thing I would say it is kind of like spending all day at the beach and then going home to kisses from your sweetheart on a hot summer night… perfect ;)

  • queenfluffqueenfluff Raw Newbie

RawDance – You could die if a durian fell on your head. They have pointy, sharp spikes. Go to your local Asian store (99 Ranch) and pick one up and give a try. (Use gloves to open – very pointy).

The inside of a durian looks like custard. It doesn;t really taste like it though. In my opinion, it is very heavy – I think it has a lot of fat. It doesn’t taste like you would expect it too based on its looks. It isn’t really sweet or anything. Sort of a mild taste – you can taste the hint of onions a bit. It is hard to describe really. I usually have it mixed with cacao so I don’t taste the full taste – I think it tastes better mixed with other things.

killed by durian,???!!! my worst nightmare. the stuff tastes like garlicy banannas with an under current of dead roach smell. the texture was nice, i didnt mind it it at all as i spit in to the trash!!!=0) then i scrubbed my tongue with dishsoap, and my friends and i escorted it directly to the dumpster! I dont even think my chickens would eat that stuff! It provided hours of entertainment for us though, we kept trying to describe the taste to each other….hahahahahah Ca Caaa like on ellen? Ill give it a try(grin)

  • Right now my favorite meal is two portabella mushrooms drizzled with a lil EVOO and a sprinkle of the following granulated garlic, cumin, coriander <— sometimes I will warm it just a tad. The two mushies are topped with kale that has been marinated in tahini/lemon/and garlic , a avocado YO! , cherry tomatoes, onions.. its like a BIG mac With Cheese. I would post it in the recipe forums but I have just been to lazy to do so .

  • omshanti, i’ll link you to my crazy you tube cacao dance if you’d like LOL

  • heyenglishheyenglish Raw Newbie

jellibi – I’ve been on a peach cobbler kick lately too! I just can’t get enough. Sometimes I’ll mix the peach with some mango… so tropical and fruity.

  • omshantiomshanti Raw Newbie

link away friend….. im up for fun dances! ;0)

  • My favorite meal is sooo simple…

Two peeled and chopped avocados, cayenne pepper, and ginger mixed in a bowl.

If the avocados are under-ripe then I grind flax seeds & pour a scoop on with some flax oil and, again, mix everything up…YUM!

omshanti—I love the durian and cherymoya! Those and figs are my favorite fruits!! (seriously) :)

  • omshanti: dont say i didnt warn you lol crazy loon over here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVeusIO7aTY
