SPROUTING vs. SOAKING?

Hi, I’m new here and have a lot to learn so please forgive my ignorance.

There is much talk about “sprouting” things and I must ask: what exactly is sprouting? and how is it same/different than soaking something?

For some reason I am under the very limited impression that both would somehow lead to things growing little “tails” or what not but I think I’m confused. I’d greatly appreciate clarification and your comments! Thanks from a newbie.

(By the way, I’m especially interested in how to sprout raw buckwheat groats to make into “crispies” without a dehydrator (I live in an area with massive sun/heat, thanks)

I’m new to this too, but I do know that sprouting is what you think…I believe the process is soak seeds/beans/groats overnight, then drain the next day and rinse them daily. In 2-3 days they should grow little tails and are then considering living food.

I’m pretty sure that’s the process, but I haven’t tried it yet, so I defer to the experienced!

  • soaking starts sprouting process. You soak a nut/seed typically for a period of 8-12 hours, drain the water, and keep rinsing and draining every 8-12 hours until you see those little “tails”. For most of the seeds/nuts it takes 2 days for those “tails” to appear (including soaking period).

You can’t soak most nuts/seeds for more than 1 day, as they turn rancid after that.
