supplements for nursing mom

Hi, I am new to the raw food lifestyle. I'd say right now, I'm about 50% raw, and slowly working my way to mostly raw. I am a mom to an 11 mo boy, and am planning on nursing for at least another year. I was wondering if anyone had some advice about what supplements I should be taking. I'm looking into taking the Vitamin Code multi, a B-12, a calcium supp (not sure if Bone Grow is appropriate for nursing moms), an ionic iron, and possibly a K-2 supplement. Also wondering if my son should also take a B-12 supplement, and if so which one? Any advice would be sincerely appreciated, as most nutritionists/dr's don't seem to know much about the raw food diet. Also, heard about soya lecithin for choline,- is this necessary or are there other choline sources. Thanks so much for helping me sort through this!

it's sounds like you've read Evies Kitchen by shazzie based on your supplement choices. No if you ahve enough b12 your 11mo old does not need b12. if you are vegan still when your son is no longer nursing, then yes add some b12. if your getting enough green or drinking enough green smoothies you prolly dont need calcium, you can also add more Tahini and almonds into your diet. those are high in calcium. Ionic iron is good. as for k2 eat more sourkraut or fermented foods on a daily basis but if you dont think that is possible and you feel you need k2 then it wouldnt hurt. i would rather take this: Pure Essence/mother and child post natals --- IT's great! you can get it at a great price on vitacost.com

i am still nuring my son at 21 months, i added some animal producting into my raw diet instead of just ming supplements, that s just my choice though.

    Hope this helps

  • If your son is vegan after he quites breastfeeding- definately start him on a B-12 supplement as Rawmamanibbles said. Some B-12 deficiencies in children, such as neurological problems, can be irreversible.
