what can i answer?

Hello!

Im in the transition to 100% raw, and is going quite well.

In these days some people around me ( family, friends..) are asking me why Im becoming raw -i was vegan before-, I explain to them about how the heat "kill" the nutrients, about the digestion, toxins, food combinations...and some of them replay:

"ok, if cooking food "kill" the nutrients why im healthy?" for example my grandma last evening said to me: "Im 89 and my whole life I've been eating cooked food, meat, white bread, i dont know anything about food combinations so, how is that possible?. ( she was eating a chesse and salami sandwich, cookies and coffe!!! argf!!) And yes, I was speechless!

None of my family are overweight, they are fit, no health problems like sugar, alergies...never in hospitals and they just take some pain killers for headache...so yeah, they are curious...and me too. Are they a "strange case"?

My boyfriend had some health problems, now he is becoming raw and he is amazed and happy about the results but when healthy people ask me I dont know what to say.

Thanks a lot!!

I guess in a weird way I was "lucky" to have a chronic health problem because the change my family saw in my energy, complexion (I was gray - no joke), and mobility was arguement enough for them to be supportive (and even open to trying it themselves - my mom loves coming over to share raw dinners and desserts).

It is so much easier to change our own behavior than try to influence the people around us. We can only lead by example and offer our own experiences if people are open. I would tell them that you are so happy they are healthy and don't expect them to change what is working for them. I would also tell them that the diet is working for you, and you're quite happy. You respect their lifestyle decisions, and while you see that they are concerned with your choice because it's unfamiliar, you have done a lot of research. You are healthy to begin with (which is great, by the way), but if this diet has helped very sick people with lupus and cancer, it can't do anything but good for people who are healthy to begin with.

I've found that ultimately it's about internally accepting our choices and being willing to live with them no matter how others judge or mock us. You go girl ;)

I would say that you don't know the answer, and you're fine with that, and move on and be happy. :) All that matters is that YOU want to be raw and your'e doing what you want to do.

People do things all the time that cause an immune response in the body that cooked food does; some people have better immune and genetic systems than others.

maybe your grandmother would live to be 120 if she ate raw. She probably has a strong constitution. Each individual has varying levels of constitution. It maybe that if she does become sick, from eating the way she does, that she will falter fast, and if she choose to eat healthier she would recover. Of course these things you can never know. I know that when i'm eating fruits and vegetables there seems to be actually more life/color in my skin, and more spring in my step. That's really all I need to know. I stopped using toothpaste (use baking soda & salt) and the stain on my tooth is finally fading. My eyes are brighter blue, and clearer by the day. When my vision improves I will really know something has happened from the inside out. Ah, and the most wonderful thing for me. I can wake up in the morning, and actually not feel tired. I want to get out of bed. That NEVER happened with cooked food. One other thought. There are other things that contribute to health. Happiness. Fresh Air. Sunlight. Pursuing a Life you want to live. If you are doing all those things, they too will make you healthier. So I would say, tell them, yes they are doing well, and they are healthy. But there is always a next level to reach, and if they would give it a try, it would take them there.

Ask them questions. Are they tired after they eat? Do they wish they had more energy? Does their stomach feel heavy and weighed down? Raw is exactly the opposite. p.s. i'm glad you're doing so well with raw! isn't it great?

You could just respond that you don't have all the answers yet. You just know that eating a cooked food diet has not given you the results you want and so you are experimenting with other options.

Simple and it leaves little room for argument. :)

  • Annamaste, I can relate!

My granny used to smoke 40+ cigarettes a day for nearly all her life and the doctor said she had lungs like a mountain climber.

Sometimes nature just isn't logical! (Good for our grannies, though! =)

  • Thanks for the answers!

At least they dont want to argue, they are just curious why they eat cooked food and they dont have any health problem (maybe is the genetic or constitution as you say)

I had the "big problem" with them when I became veg but it was 14 years ago...now Im sure they think Im "a little bit more crazy" :)

Anyway Luxdivon makes me think about, 'cos I still wake up tired and with no energy...and I just go to the toilelt once :( I hope it will better soon :)

    Thanks!!

It took about 3-4 months before I started to wake up feeling more refreshed. The days I feel the most refreshed are actually the days I eat fruit based smoothies at night/ eat light before bed. I don't do that everyday thou, so there are many a day i still wake up tired.
