What kind of cleanse?

So, I have been on and off again raw for about a year. Even when not raw, I eat pretty healthy, especially by American standards. But there are somethings I just can not seem to stay away from, like Newman's Own Oreo cookies. It wouldnt be so bad if I could just eat one.

So I want to do some kind of cleanse for a number of reasons. One is to help me kick my cravings for processed foods, another is that I have really bad skin, very dry from head to toe, and I have read that dry skin is due to toxic blood, though I dont know a lot about it. Also, any weight loss would be great, as I need to lose 10-15 pounds.

My question is what kind of cleanse would any of you recommend? I have read a little about the master cleanse, but I would like to know what else is out there that is natural, and safe. And the idea of drinking just lemonade and maple syrup for how ever many days doesnt sound too great.

Maybe there are some particularly purifying foods that I could up my intake of?

Thanks all!

i just did a regular juice cleanse for 7 days. all you drink is fresh juice for every meal. i took the master cleanse to school with me because i didn't have a way of juicing during school, but while i was at home, all i drank were fresh juices. i lost 4 pounds in 7 days, but i'm sure you could lose more if you stayed on it longer and depending on how much waste you have. i also drank laxative teas while i cleansed. it is definitely ALL mental when it comes down to it.

  • oh I would love to do a juice feast, but I do not have a juicer, and probably wont be getting on any time soon. :( Would smoothies be a good substitute?

  • I highly recommend The Blessed Herbs Colon Cleansing Kit. http://www.blessedherbs.com/bh/?s_hsplt=1

Normally an $85 purchase (which helped me stick with it once I started it), you can now try it for free! I just finished this 9 day cleanse (5 days liquids only), which involves taking an herbal stimulator at night and packets of psyllium/betonite clay throughout the day until you run out. The packets of psyllium really filled me up (I couldn't take the 5 packets/day that are recommended) and I must say out of all the cleanses I have done, this was my most successful. As with any cleanse, it is important to continue to move your bowels so I did pick up an enema back and organic coffee just in case I needed it. I found that between the herbal stimulants, rebounding and massaging my abdomen every night, I was able to move my bowels everyday. Phew!

I lost 5 lbs, hopefully some of that was old putrefied matter, my skin is the clearest it's been in years, and my body continues to digest food more efficiently. I thought I was regular before...

Another reason this cleanse went so smoothly for me was because I gave myself something to look forward to everyday. I sat in a sauna, got a massage, rebounded, and ended it with a colonic (I had a 3 inch mucus plug come out, which excited my colon hydrotherapist:)

I will continue to do this cleanse once to two times/year.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with this cleansing kit?

If you don't have a juicer but have a good blender then go ahead and use what you have available to you. If you are doing something with all greens you could blend it and then strain it through a nut milk bag(or just big piece of cheesecloth. I just did a cleanse, and even just 3 days made a difference. Mine was one I did through raw foods cafe near me but it was what I needed this time. (4 juices, a smoothie and a soup each day). I am going to continue with a big smoothie in the morning, small lunch(not raw but I need the yogurt right now to help GI), snack in afternoon, small dinner then a juice before bed. I'm finding by stretching it out and not eating too much at any one meal(which always made me sick), plus cutting back on sweets it has been helping a lot. My goal is to be up to about 70% raw by the time spring hits. I have been losing weight, but slowly and constant which is best.

PS - no matter what, for me in the winter my skin sometimes still gets very dry on my cheeks. Even doing the cleanse everything else looked better but the heat at work is SO drying that something internal health helps get it back on track faster but it needs a little help from the outside too. Coconut oil is good with my skin, I don't use much or need it more than once a day on my face. My hands I use it all the time, lol my students are used to it now and many of them like the smell and always want some for themself(instead of the bottle of lotion in the room)

Coconut oil also makes a great body scrub mixed with brown sugar. I started using that last year and also switched to local goat milk soap. I hadn't switched my diet as much then, but found that switching what I used on my skin made a HUGE difference. Now if I use any commercial soap/lotions my skin is irritated within an hour or so. No wonder it used to be so dry and horrible all the time. Diet is also a big part, but for a me a key factor is what was put on my skin and also the detergent my clothes is washed in(something I wish I had known years ago!)

  • greeneyedlady thank you for bringing up the free trial for blessed herbs. I think I will try it since so many people have had a good experience. so it sounds like the powder is pretty filling if you couldn't even manage to get it all down in one day. do you think it was detrimental at all that you didn't take all the servings? also, which flavor did you choose. sorry for all the questions, i'm just excited!

a-love, i'm sure you could do a green smoothie cleanse. i do that sometimes where i'll just drink smoothies for a few days. even if it's only 2 days, i can still feel a difference. it's much easier than juicing because you feel much fuller. juicing was really difficult for me, but i got through it!!

Hi! I got the ginger flavored packets. Not the best tasting, but I thought I'd prefer it over peppermint. They were very filling. I really don't know if not taking all of the packets altered the effects of my cleanse. I really couldn't imagine it being any better than it was though! Here is their number 800 489 4372. I would call and see what they say. Let me know how it goes!

  • thanks so much for your reply! I sent her over an email at blessed herbs just to feel it out. I said I was interested in the free trial but was hesitant because I have wasted alot of money in the past on cleansing products. She said I could use the ENTIRE kit and if I didn't see results I really would never be charged. So I think I am going to try it, and I will let everyone know how it goes!
