What type of Dessert should I make????

shgadwashgadwa Raw Newbie

My dad has been eating maybe 60% raw. Though he has been taking super food powder and carrot juice. He has been on this for about 2-3 weeks and I think It is time for a treat. I am thinking a pie. I once made the pumpkin pie recipe from www.hacres.com which tasted great but I used canned pumpkin because I did not have any raw and I do not think I can buy it at this time.

I would like a good pie recipe that is inexpensive to make and also some ice cream maybe though I might just use frozen fruit. What can I make?? I do have some sweet potatoes and I have some honey and I have flax seeds and walnuts though I think the walnuts are rancid. I will definably have to buy some more ingredients for it though. He does love cheesecakes though says there is no such thing as a vegan (especially raw vegan) cheesecake. Because a cheesecake is made to be unhealthy and have cheese in it.

He also likes pumpkin pie. He LOVES German chocolate cake with nutty frosting and such. Though I do not think there is a vegan alternative that is inexpensive. I might make a coconut banana cream pie. Any recipes for that??? Sorry but I never made any healthy pies except that one.

  • I tried the Chocolate Dream Pie on this site, it was goooood. I also made an apple pie using cashews and dates for the crust, but I bet pecans or walnuts would be even better! My kids even liked it, which says a lot, ha ha. It was good with banana ‘ice cream’ or a drizzle of almond milk on it.

I have a recipe I made up that really does taste pretty close to a no-bake cheesecake, but it uses cashews, which are not really raw, and it is definitely not cheap. The sweetener is agave nectar. At any rate, it is still a whole lot healthier than any cooked/non-vegan dessert using sugar & dairy. I’ll look it up & let you know the recipe if you’re interested.

Yeah, I would be interested. He likes cheesecake! I might substitute cashews for macadamians or something like that. Have you all ever read about cashews?? They are not raw. Before they are cooked, they are like soft jelly “nuts” that are hardened when cooking. I do not know much about them but if I remember right, they have toxins in them because they are like in the middle of some toxic liquid that I forget is what. I should read it again. They say to substitute for pine nuts or macadaimian. Pine nuts are very expensive though. I thought I could harvest some wild nuts but I think that that needs to be a special tree and you need to climb to the top at a special time of the year???

Post it on goneraw. Maybe others would want it too.

I can’t find it. Maybe someday.

I have a recipe for Pumpkin pie from Pure Food & Wine’s Matthew Kenney’s new book. I made it at Thanksgiving for work and had to make 2 more. Everyone wanted the recipe. I’ve already checked the recipes here and this one is not there. You all must have it! Raw

Thank you for the recipe. I was wondering though, I was thinking on making sweet potato pie. And then I made myself some sweet potato pudding (just raw sweet potato, honey, water, cinnamon and nutmeg). It was good but very starchy and therefore, not good. I cooked it (I know) for a few mins and it tasted great. Soooo, is this how my pie would of tasted? Starchy? How do I get rid of the starchy flavor?

There’s a banana coconut cream pie recipe on this website.

Also, I’ve read in The Raw Truth that soaking the sweet potato a couple hours in water with salt makes the sweet potato more palatable. I take that to mean it makes it less starchy. Good luck with your dessert!

  • I made the apple tart that is on this site http://www.goneraw.com/recipes/1462-Appel-Cranb… and it was so delicious that my entire family ate the entire thing.

If you grate the sweet potato before putting it in the water, that should work even better. Let us know if it works. :) It is cool you are working to help your dad with this; it can be overwhelming, I know.

  • I’m hoping to find some awesome recipes in Matthew Kenney’s new book! (forgot what it’s called)
