What's best?

Hello!

As I have been reading through the forums I noticed that most people start their day off with a juice or smoothie….is there a particular health benefit to this or is it just a preference?

I generally start my day off with what I consider my cooked meal (I am only doing about 80% raw to begin with) which consists of my 1 cup of tea and meusli mix or ezikiel grain mix with a bit of milk ( I have yet to look for a better milk substitue….suggestions?)

Also what would you consider the maximum amount of smoothie to drink in a day?

I am picking up the book “Green for Life” today so maybe some of the answers are there but you guys have a wealth of knowledge too!!

Thanks in advance for the advice!!

  • I like starting with juice or a smoothie because it is waaaay easier for your tummy to handle first thing in the morning. If i don’t have time to juice or make smoothies (I am an active student) I drink plenty of water, since my body just spent 7 horizontal hours without any. The directness of smoothies is the best. Everyone thing is whirred up and the energy is just waiting to diffuse into your system.

It also just feels great to have a few servings of fruits and veggies already in you when you start your day!

If you have a juicer try this combo sometime:
1 cucumber (peeled, use the peels for your skin)
    1 romaine heart/bunch of romaine
1 big apple (any variety works well)

    juice and enjoy

I agree, I like to start off with smoothies because it’s easy on the stomach and gets you going, you don’t feel weighed down or sluggish. Well I shouldn’t say I start with them, I first down a bottle of water, maybe some lemon juice… then it’s onto the smoothie! As far as how much smoothie you should drink in a day… well that’s completely up to you! Whatever floats your boat ;-) Sometimes I drink smoothies all day long up til dinner, sometimes I only have a small smoothie to start off the day. Just all depends on what you feel like. And the Green for Life book is AWESOME, you will get so much info out of it!

  • oops! I had ordered “12 steps to raw food” not green for life….lol…..oh well! “Green for Life” will be next on the list!

    Thanks for the feedback!

  • Sarm, I also love a hearty breakfast and my new favorite thing is walnut “yogurt” which I have with raw granola and a banana. I make the yogurt by soaking a cup of walnuts overnight. In the morning I drain the water and blend them at high speed with about 2 cups of water (adjust to your desired thickness). Once their pulverised, you have a delicious creamy yogurt! If you like sweeter, add some soaked dates or agave, and if you like a flavoring add some vanilla. It can also be blended with berries and/or banana to make a delicious fruit treat. Every night I’m excited to wake up and have some! :)
